Retina and Choroid

The retina is the thin layer of cells covering the inside of the eye. The rods and cones are light sensitive photoreceptor cells that absorb light and send signals about the light to the brain through the optic nerve. Light must first go through the layers of cells covering the rods and cones. Once absorbed by the photorecptors, the signal is sent through these cells to the nerve fiber layer which will exit through the optic disc.
The choroid is the layer of tissue outside the retina that has lots of blood vessels. Its role is to nourish the rods and cones, providing oxygen and sugar.
