Joanie Laurer known
as Chyna "The 9th Wonder Of the World" was born in Rochester,
NY on December 27, 1970. She was raised by her big sister Kathy,
because of her parents' divorce. Her sister Kathy besides being
her sister, Chyna considered her, her best friend, because she
was always there for her. She was different from the other girls
back in school, some told her she looked like a man. Later she
started weight lifting to develop her strength, when usually women
didn't use to. She went to Spain to finished high school. She
double major in Spanish Literature in the University of Tampa.
Something that many
people hard believe was that Chyna has a tremendous sense of humor,
she like to make people laugh.
While in college, Chyna
didn't quit with the weight lifting, she continued developing
stronger faster. She also participated in fitness competitions
and appeared in several fitness magazines.
She decided that she
wanted to do wrestling when she was watching wrestling on TV.
She contacted a wrestling promoter called Kowalski, so later she
signed up for Kowalski's wrestling lessons, she was rejected and
critized by her other guys in class, which inspired her to try
harder and prove them wrong. As soon as she finished her lessons,
she wrestler for a few promotions, but she really wanted to make
it to the wrestling business, she worked very hard and traveled
around to get notice. Later she met with a wrestler she had worked
with in the classes she took, none other that Hunter Hearst Helmsley.
He helped her get into the wrestling business. So in the WWF she
appeared as HHH bodyguard (February 1997, at an In Your House
Pay Per View Event.) I remember that was when HHH had a feud with
Goldust accompanied by Marlena (Terri Ronnelds), who Chyna beat
up many times. Later HHH and Chyna join Shawn Michaels and together
they founded D-Generation X, which become stronger with new members
(The New Age Outlaws and X-Pac), even though Shawn Michael was
gone for a long time. Also Chyna dated "Sexual Chocolate"
Mark Henry for a while, but then she hooked him up with a "girl
friend" which was really a guy. Later on, Chyna betrayed
D-X and joined with The Corporation. D-X was splitting apart because
HHH joined The Corporation too and reunited with Chyna.
Chyna wanted something
more challenging than being HHH's bodyguard and help him cheated
in a lot of fights, so she began fighting with men. And she was
the first women to participate in a pay per view event call "The
King Of The Ring" and the first women in the "Royal
Rumble", but the most challenging of all was to have a title
on her waist (Not The Women Title), so she was first contender
for the WWF Championship, which Stonecold had at the time, because
of that HHH wanted the title shot, but Chyna wouldn't give him
the chance, so he challenged her to a match for the first contendership.
On her first fight with HHH she won thanks to Stonecold, but at
the second one she lost the contendership. Later while being HHH's
bodyguard, she challenged Jeff Jarrett for the Intercontinental
Championship. She first fought with J.J. took place on PPV's "Unforgiven
'99" which she lost. But she got another shot at "No
Mercy '99" (another PPV event); in this one she was the first
woman holding the Intercontinental Championship. Then on Monday
night RAW, Chyna made her appearance with Miss Kitty, to challenge
any guy who had a problem with her being the Intercontinental
Champ, Y2J Jericho was disgusted by the situation of Chyna with
the title, so he wanted a title shot, he got it. They met on Survival
Series for the Intercontinental Championship, which Chyna won.
But Y2J had a second shot for the title at Armageddon, in this
event Chyna lost her title, she congratulated his opponent. Then
Chyna was helping Jericho keep the title, because she wanted another
title shot with him, she got the title shot, but the two of them
won the Intercontinental Championship, so Chyna and Y2J were both
co-intercontinental champs. But then Hardcore Holly wanted a shot
for the IC Championship, so the three of them fought on a triple-match
for the IC championship in the Royal Rumble 2000 (Chyna once again
participate in the Royal Rumble, she throw Jericho out, but then
Big Bossman throw her out of the Rumble). Y2J won the IC Championship.
One night at Raw is War, Hardcore Holly blamed Chyna for his lost
at the Royal Rumble, he told her that he was the big Shot, Chyna
laughed at him, and Hardcore Holly punch her in the face, suddenly
Y2J appeared, maybe watching Chyna's back there. That night Y2J
vs Hardcore Holly for the IC Championship, thanks to Chyna, Y2J
is still the IC Champ. Recently, Chyna is with Y2J, some fans
opinion is that is for mutual respect (that's my opinion too),
other think that is because Chyna has a crush on Jericho. I don't
know what it is exactly, but I wish her the best. March was Chyna's
month. She appeared in 3rd Rock from the Sun, and Pacific Blue.
She was great. And she appeared in several magazine's covers.
She was sometimes with Chris Jericho, and appearing on several
TV shows. She was Eddie Guerrero's "Mamacita", and they
were engaged. But because Eddie cheated on her, she's with "The
One" Billy Gunn.
