THE CHAIN
I am the chain and I don’t know when
I was born, forg’d by one man’s hand,
I don’t remember the old past times
all the words on me ever said.
I’m just made of iron and steel
but my heart has neverendin’ life
every human being who sat on me
made me feel what he got in his soul
I heard lots of stories and tales
but one of those I’d like to tell
I’ve been built in a central little square
where all the fools of town waste their whole time
They meet and talk about childish dreams
wake up once in the morning and
find yourself out of all this shit
They can’t bear no longer a harsh existence
led by traditional and conformistic rules
they feel a way out and try to escape from
the entire eternity which lies behind their eyes
Hell is not so far and the God of all
is not but a mere illusion
Forgiveness is just kiddish stiff
You have to listen to me
‘cause I’m The Chain,
I am The Chain
Follow the lane
that leads to me.
Black men from the darkest places
strive to sell tou anything strangest
lights and shades and don’t know what else
If you say "square girls are pretty"
you’ll be right
Nobody can have’em freely
and no one can leave without dreams of them
rising shiny upon the skies of love
Some don’t know the world of passion
some don’t need one
some are young small or fat
that nobody can watch’em and sigh
Bishops and dolls joint together down the city hall
hung to me are rings which feel every kind of harden’d ass
nothing that happens is so aloof from me
but the only way of reaching your God
is climbing the pile and closing your eyes
there’s just a lonely heart, he’s singing
his fingers are picking giutars
all the people passing by the corner
give a sight, run away
but I’m ready to help the mankind
I’m here to tell you something
don’t forget to care for me
‘cause I’m The Chain,
I am The Chain
follow that lane
that leads to me
