Beyond the specs:
What do you get when you attach a weak engine to an extremely light car? One obvious benefit is fuel efficiency, but the other is speed, speed which few ever think could exist in a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder car. This car is an exaggeration of what Lotus has been trying been doing with all its cars, reducing the weight to get a performance edge. This is not the lightest car ever to were a Lotus name tag however, no the Lotus Seven was much lighter. However that car was stripped bare, this Lotus actually has everything a civilized car needs in today's modern world. Still the Elise's interior is stripped down a bit, but it is still comfortable if you ignore that window crank that just fell off. Despite that however, the Lotus Elise is a wonderful car, it combines a good ride with the excellent handling expected of a lightweight. This cars performance is unmatched at is bargain price of $33,500, though some Ford Mustangs can beat it to 60mph, few cars can match its 0-30mph time of only 1.8 seconds (that's the Mclaren F1's time!)! As you can expect this car sells very well, but it is not available in the US (emission problems prevent that) despite the constant pleas from Americans. The lotus Elise is only for the enthusiast that is willing to give up some luxury to enjoy the beauty of the best handling Lotus available.
