Marvin THE Martian RuleZ!

Basic Information:

Name: Marvin the Martian Formerly known as: Commander X-2 Planet of Origin: Mars Birthdate: July 24, 1948 Uniform: Green broom-brush helmet, red suit, white gloves, green skirt, tennis shoes Mode of Transportation: His high-speed spaceship, the Martian Maggot Weapon of Choice: ACME Disintegrating Pistol Mission in Life: To blow up the planet Earth with his Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator. But Marvin's no single-minded space alien bent on destroying Earth just for the fun of it. He's got a motive behind his actions--the little blue and green planet is blocking his view of Venus.

Former Occupation:

Door-to-door salesman for Time-Space Books Commanding Officer: General E. McSquared Partner in Crime: His green Martian dog, K-9 Other Pet: Hugo the abominable snowman--Marvin captured the creature in the Himalayas.

Filmography:

1948: Haredevil Hare Marvin and K-9's first TV appearance. The two Martians have a run-in with Bugs Bunny on their Mars-to-Moon Expedition, and Bugs ruins Marvin's plan to blow up the Earth with his Uranium Pew-36 Explosive Space Modulator (yep, he used a different type of explosive back then!).

1952: The Hasty Hare Marvin receives orders from the general to bring one Earth creature back to Mars. Unfortunately, he makes the mistake of choosing Bugs Bunny. Bugs manages to trick Marvin and K-9 in all sorts of ways, like convincing Marvin that his faithful dog is really plotting against him!

1953: Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2 Century Marvin makes his third appearance in this cartoon parody of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Duck Dodgers (Daffy Duck) and his eager young space cadet, Porky Pig, travel to Planet X, the only remaining source of Illudium Phosdex, the shaving cream atom, to claim it for Earth. But Dodgers winds up in a battle with Marvin, who's dead-set on claiming Planet X in the name of Mars.

1958: Hare-Way to the Stars Once again, Marvin's ready to destroy the Earth with his Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator. . . And once again, Bugs Bunny interrupts his plans, stealing Marvin's Space Modulator to save his planet. Marvin creates a group of Instant Martians (just add water!) and sends them after Bugs.

1963: Mad as a Mars Hare From his laboratory on Mars, Marvin observes a rocket launch on Earth through his telescope. He doesn't know that the rocket is headed for Mars--until it crashes into his lab, with Bugs Bunny inside of it. Marvin zaps Bugs with his ACME Space-Time Gun, hoping to send Bugs into the future where he'll be "a useful but harmless slave" to the Martian. But Marv has the gun in reverse, and he accidentally turns Bugs into a hulking Neanderthal bunny!

1980: Duck Dodgers and the Return of the 24 1/2 Century Duck Dodgers is assigned to protect the Rack-and-Pinion Molecule, the only substance that can polish yo-yos. Meanwhile, Marvin the Martian attempts to (what else?) blow up Earth. Gossamer (ya know, the big hairy monster with the sneakers?) also makes an appearance here. (Thanks to Steven Paradise and LOUIE3639 for this bit of info!)

1980: Spaced-Out Bunny Marvin captures Bugs and brings the rabbit back to Mars as a playmate for Hugo.

1991: Bugs Bunny's Lunar Tunes Marvin's furious with the people of Earth . . . so much so that he wants to blow up the planet (as usual). But this time he's going to get it done legally (you need a permit for that), and the little Martian takes his case before an interstellar court, with Bugs Bunny defending Earth.

1996: Marvin the Martian in the 3rd Dimension A 12-minute, 3-D cartoon starring Marvin, K-9, and Daffy Duck that can only be seen at the Warner Bros. Flagship Store in Manhattan, NY. I haven't seen this one yet (heck, I haven't even been to NY!). If any of you Marvin fans are ever in the area, be sure to check it out and let me know how it is!

1996: Space Jam The first Looney Tunes movie to hit the big screen. Marvin winds up as the referee for the basketball game pitting the Tune Squad against the Monstars. Marv gets a costume change here: His suit has a collar and shorter sleeves, and his skirt is black and white, not green.

Guest Appearances: Marvin had a role in a Tiny Toons episode, Duck Dodgers Jr., which also featured Daffy and Plucky Duck, and Marcia the Martian. He had a brief cameo role in a Simpsons episode titled The Springfield Files, an X-Files parody that guest-starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. Look for him in the ET line-up. Marv also appeared in a Taz-Mania episode, The Man From M.A.R.S.. Marvin decides to take a vacation, but Taz shows up and manages to ruin it. Marvin's definitely not happy about this, and he decides to blow up the Earth! (Thanks to Liz the Martian for this information!) Finally, Marv starred in an Animaniacs episode, but I still haven't seen that one yet. If you have any information, please e-mail me!

Behind the Scenes:

Creator: Chuck Jones Voice: Formerly done by Mel Blanc; currently done by Joe Alaskey and Bob Bergen.

What inspired Chuck Jones to create Marvin the Martian? Jones noticed that as time went on, Bugs's enemies were getting bigger and noisier. He thought it would be a great idea to introduce a new villain into the Looney Tunes circle, a villain that was a good deal smaller and quieter than the rest of the bad guys . . . but a lot more dangerous. Well, what could be more deadly than a hostile extraterrestrial with technology superior to Earth's? And so Marvin the Martian took his place among the rest of the Looney Tunes. If you've watched a lot of Marvin's cartoons, you've probably noticed that while Marv is often in a bad mood, he never gets loud or out of control. Now you know why!
