FLORIDA
Major procedural change as of 4/2003 affecting Birth Family Members. As of this date the State of Florida no longer provides for the Birth Family to receive ANY information pertaining to the adoptee or adoption. Prior to this date Birth Family could receive county of finalization from FL Vital Statistics. Without political and or legislative changes this modification in procedure has dealt a "death blow" to birth parents attempting to find their children. If you are a Birth Parent affected by this change PLEASE consider exploring what options you have and what you can do to effect political reform. County of finalization information is now available to Adoptees ONLY. If the adoptee was born in Florida and adopted elsewhere he or she can also request the county of finalization information from Florida Vital Statistics. The cost of this information is $9.00. This fee will be applied each time a person requests the information from them, even if the file cannot be found since a search for the information did take place. There will be no refunds. To get your county of finalization write a simple letter of request to:
Florida Department of Vital Statistics Office
NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE Phone calls are proving to be counter productive to the search and reunion movement. Telephone requests are resulting in delays of information as there are only so many people available to answer requests. It is also causing the State of Florida (as well as the individual searchers) to spend unnecessary money on long distance phone calls. No phone calls is an "official" request from those in the vital statistics office. Let's respect it. Please do not cause doors to be closed on someone else! |
