The Symbolism Of The Sunflower Globe

The Sunflower signifies pride,  and strength,  but also false appearances.   It stands tall and erect.   Rising higher than most other flowers, the Sunflower reflects the sun's own radiance in it' s face,  symbolizing hope and positive thinking.

The 3 flowers symbolize the 3 sides of the adoption Triad.   The Birth Mother (or First Mother),  The Adoptive Parents,  and the Child.

The 3 stars show how each side of the Triad can illuminate the others,  but they also shows the struggle between the Adoptive Mother and the Birth Mother in making room for each other in their lives.   Notice how the two top stars twinkle in competition with one another,  as the adoptee's star draws attention to itself with the beat of a heart.    It is on the child that both of the others should focus.

The 3 pieces of greenery symbolize the prospect of life after adoption.   The life of each member of the Triad is forever altered by the process of adoption.    Adoption can bring life and new beginnings where it seemed there was no hope, but it can also cause life to whither.   The greenery symbolizes the fact that the Birth Mother has chosen life for her child.

The black background symbolizes the lies and secrecy surrounding adoption.

The white of the child's clothing symbolizes innocence.   The child of adoption is given no choice.

The child lying at the Mother's breast represents the fact that the adoptee is never far from the Birth Mother's heart.   If you look carefully,  you will notice that her hair divides the child in half,  representing the fact that she recognizes that her child may be torn between two sets of parents and because of adoption needs both to be whole.   The Sunflower Birth Mother's desire is not to take the place of the adoptive parents,  but rather to share a place in her child's heart,  so that her child can feel whole and complete.

The reflection in the glass,  symbolizes an adoptee's questions as they look in the mirror and wonder "Who am I?"  The Sunflower Birth Mother recognizes her child's need to know the answers to this question,  and does what she can to provide them.

The glass globe holds together only when all sides work together for a common cause,  in harmony.   It is a reminder of how easily lives can be shattered in adoption.

The water in the globe sybolizes the tears silently cried by Birth Mothers everywhere,  as they mix with the tears of joy shed by the parents,  into whose hands they place their children.

The antique base symbolizes the past.    That place that the Birth Mother is told to forget.   In reality the pain from days gone by is at the foundation of who she is.   Sunflower Birth Mom's have learned they are stonger than they think they are. They have risen above the past and are looking to the future with hope and determination.
