Work Environment

I started working for Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) department (Spoornet), Mentor building in April 1995. The project I was involved in was called ‘ERIDANUS’ at that time.

The ‘ERIDANUS’ project among other aspects involved the Implementation of a Human Resources System called HURQLES which replaced the PAS / Payroll system. This project was renamed and became HR2000 project.


Nature of my Work in the HR2000 Project

Configuration of Computers to run TCP/IP and Netbeui Protocols.
Installation of Operating Systems (DOS, Windows 95, Windows for Workgroups, Windows NT), Random Access Memory (RAM) chips and Network cards.

Building Windows NT 3.51 Images to Run on the various Domain Controllers that have been placed at the sites.

Loading and Support of Windows NT 3.51 and other software for HR Personnel.

Creation of User Procedures for Windows NT logon, Connection to Hurqles and UNIX systems, Network Connection to Printers.

Site visits and the Presentation of procedures to HR Personnel.

Windows NT 3.51 Primary and Secondary Domain Controllers Setup.

Printer Setup, Electronic Mail Configuration.

Drawing LAN Infrastructure plan using Visio Software.


Current Project:

I am now part of a team called Production Planning where I am learning Object-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD). I tools that I have worked with so far are Rational Rose Modeling Software, Visual Basic and Visual C++ Programming Languages.
