Shawn's Story & Photo's of Kevin In Iceland 1999
On July 24th, 1999, I had
a great time getting to meet Kevin Costner the actor of Field
of Dreams, Robin Hood, Silverado, JFK, Dances with Wolves, The Postman.
He was scheduled to play softball from 11:00 am to 1 pm.� My friend
Lance and I showed up at the ball field around 10:30 am awaiting for Kevin's
arrival.� Well we were sitting real close to the 3rd base, hoping
that we would get a great picture of Kevin.� Well 11:00 came, no Kevin,
so we walked around to the other Bleachers to get on the top step so we
could get a better view of his arrival.� Well around 11:05 am we saw
the Navy Police escorting his vehicle.� He pulled over to the parking
area and got out of his vehicle, and was heading to the ball field, but
he went the other way, my luck that it happened.� But anyway, he wasn't
dressed for softball, so he headed back to the vehicle to get dressed.�
When he was walking over to his vehicle, I was on the top of the bleacher,
and I said Hi, Mr. Kevin, and he looked up at me and smiled and said hi.�
I got some pics thinking that might be the only pics I would get, so I
got down to see if he would sign something for me, well the cops had him
pretty surrounded, but I was only within a foot of him which was really cool.
He
went back on the field to play, in the first inning when he wasn't in the
outfield he was signing autographs, so I got over to the bull pit where
he was signing them, I talked to him a little and he signed my index card
that I brought that day.� Well everybody else was like taking there hats off for
him to sign, I figure what the heck, so I took off my Braves hat where
he signed my hat, so I figured I have gotten enough, and went back to where
I was orignially at with my friend.
We were cheering him
on where he was playing
between the second and third bases.� So again he came over there to
sign some autographs, I asked him what he thought of Iceland and he smiled.�
Well about a half hour later he came over to shake someones hand that was
about 2 feet from me, so I through out my hand, and so did my friend. We
got to shake his hand, and I told him he was a great actor.� I told
him I like him in The Field of Dreams.� For someone who had a few
hours to entertain the base, he was a great sport about it.� Well
when it was over, he was leaving, I was hoping to get a pic with him, but
he got crowded real quick, so I lost my chance.
� But when they
were driving away, I was the last person, that waved at him, he waved back
and smiled.� People were pulling out everything you could think of
for him to sign, the really funny thing was a $20 bill, I like Kevin, but not that
much to get him to sign a twenty, People were pulling out Kronur (Icelandic
Money) for him to sign, I think I saw every movie he made that he signed.�
I tell you this, this was one of the greatest days that I have witnessed
meeting an actor..
