| Layering | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Layering can be a difficult thing to accomplish, not if you know the proper ways and matterials to use. Its consept provides comfort and protect for those who spend times outdoors. With the three basic keys to layering an outdoorsman can maintain total comfort in any temperature and weather condition. 1. NEXT TO SKIN- Most imporant layer in layering. It should NOT be cotton. Tight fitting clothing is the best for the wicking effect. 2. INSULATIVE LAYER- Warmth layer. It is the most varied layer you wear because of activities, times of years, and temperatures. 3. ELEMENT LAYER- Wind and water are the bodies worst enemy, one should choose clothes that are both wind and water proof. It is essencial that you understand the importance of non-cotton based layers. Any skier or snowboader will tell you the hypothermia uniform is jeans and a T-shirt. Cotton gets wet, stays wet, and does not keap the heat when wet. Synthetic clothes are great because they have the ability to wick, or pull, the moisture away from the body. The heat given off from someones body is also enough to dry off the wet articles. Insulative layers come in many forms and matterials, usually more than what is nessary. The purpose of insulating layers is to keap a cushion of warm air around the body. The more you exert yourself the less matterials you need. The element layer prevents heat loss and counteracts the three ways the body loses heat. Convewvtive heat loss, conductive heat loss, and evaporative heat loss have to be fought against and this is the layer in which you accomplish this. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
