A picture of Caroline Henderson Mills at the age of 78, taken circa 1920. A picture of Lott W. Mills, Jr. taken in the early 1900's. I am searching for their descendants.

Introduction

Hello everyone! This is the Romero Family Home Page. This page is dedicated to the Mills Family of Onslow County, North Carolina. All of the following information will be updated to include new photos of Mills family members from RICHLANDS, NC and KINSTON, NC. Please bear with me as I revise this site. If you have any questions about the site or about the Mills history that I am researching, please e-mail me at the address below.

My Family

We are a typical family with a daughter, Brandi; an 8th grader and a son, Carlos; a 5th grader. We live in a quiet community in Fort Washington, Maryland. Both of the kids have their own likes and dislikes including Nintendo 64 and of course, talking on the telephone with friends.

Listed below are some interesting and informative links for kids!

Our Roots

Our roots run to the southeastern section of North Carolina in Onslow County in a little place designated "Rich Lands" or Richlands. It is here that I first uncovered my great-great-great grandparents, Lott W. Mills, Sr. and Zylphia King Mills in the 1870 federal census for Onslow County. They were 55 and 45 years old respectively. I know that they had at least three children, Lott,Jr. (my great-great grandfather), Virginia and Henry. They may have had more! I followed Lott and Zylphia into Lenoir County in a little area known as Woodington in 1880. After 1880, I lost Lott and Zylphia. I have to presume that during the time period 1880-1900, they might have perished. I have yet to find any records of their existance other than the census. Lott Jr. and his wife, Caroline; were also followed and they migrated to the Lenoir County area to a place called "Kingston" or Kinston. I know from census records that Caroline bore 19 children and as of 1920, 12 of those children were still living. Of the 19 children was my great grandfather, John Nixon Mills. Please follow the link below to see my family tree and to see other relatives. Hopefully a connection exists for you and I!

Bullet Descendants of Lott W. Mills, Sr. and Zylphia King
Interesting information: In 1860 there were 313 slaveholders in the Onslow County area of N.C. Most of them had fewer than 20 slaves. The average farm was between 20 and 200 acres.
