...or what it's like live in Frogtown (Valley City, ND)
|
My name is Stacie Hansen and I live in Valley City, North Dakota. Some of you may be saying, "Where the ?@% is North Dakota?". Well, it's a mostly rural state that borders the Canadian border in the north central US. Otherwise affectionately known as the "Heartland". Valley City is situated approximately 60 miles due west of Fargo. (C'mon, I know you've heard of that stupid movie!) The population here is about 7500 people. A nice small town environment located not too far from the larger cities. I find it a very nice place to live. The crime rate is low, people are friendly, and you don't have to drive too far to get to the middle of nowhere. In fact, I think we are the middle of nowhere. The area of Valley City I live in is referred to by the "old-timers" as Frogtown. This is due to the fact that we are situated right next to the river and at the turn of the century, frogs were abundant. Frankly though, I have yet to recall seeing one here in recent times. I will be adding more Valley City links and information as I go along.

What I do....
|
I am currently a full-time 911 dispatcher for all of Barnes County (which includes Valley City). I dispatch for the Valley City Police Department, Barnes County Sheriff's Department, Barnes County Ambulance, Fire Departments and any other agency that needs to be told 'where to go'. This August is my two year anniversary of working there. (I can hear my parents applauding for sticking with a job for more than 2 weeks). I am also a NREMT-B working part-time with Barnes County Ambulance Service. It is a private service and as such, we actually do get paid for going on runs and transfers, though not much! I am hoping to eventually get my degree as a Paramedic so I can not only deal with blood and guts, but stick people with needles and shock them with the defibrillator! This August is my four year anniversary for working this job. (August was a good month for me it appears!). Eventually, I plan to have law enforcement, 911 and EMS links on here.

Some of my hobbies...
|
As you can guess by looking at my jobs, I don't have very much free time. However, when I do, there are many different hobbies I enjoy. Currently the hobby consuming the majority of my time is genealogy. Along with my mother and other members of the family, we are trying to prove to the world that our family tree does indeed branch out and is not just one big "billy-bob" inbred line! I am also into karaoke and singing. My boyfriend runs a karaoke business part-time (he's a shop teacher full-time...go figure!) so that gives me many opportunities to get up and use the 'ol pipes to my heart's content. I'm told I'm pretty good and I've even won some contests, but Mom told me never to brag and so I won't! Singing is one of the few things I have ever really excelled in though. (You should see my jump-shot. It really sucks) I also keep a tropical fish aquarium stocked full of plenty of little fishies that my cats like to terrorize. I should mention them too before they jump on the keyboard. I have 2 cats that are a constant source of amusement and frustration. We play kitty Olympics at 3am. I'll get into that another time though. I'm a horse nut and have been since I was little. I even did a stint working on a horse ranch for awhile. I loved it until I tried to break a horse on barrel racing and got tossed on my cookies which resulted in putting my back out. Never-the-less, anytime I can find someone to lend me a horse (since I can't keep them in my backyard), I claim horseback riding as another favorite pasttime. There are many other hobbies I could get into right now, but seeing as I still have quite a bit of work to do on this page, I'll save it for another time.
