He
He walked into the house today and stood
there all alone. Thinking just how
good it was to finally Be back home.
Quietly he closed the door, and took off his hat and coat.
He chuckled when he tipped his head and saw Susie's scratched wood floor.
Was it Timmy and his cleats that day, or
Billy and his skates.
Oh now I know it was Amanda's' new young date.
He kicked back on the sofa, his paper in his hand. I think
I need some coffee to liven this old man.
Timmy made the headlines, a track record he set today.
I'll let him know how proud I am, a star he'll be I bet.
Billy had a baseball game, so he'll be back at seven.
How many hits today my boy, was it ten or eleven.
Amanda's taking her drivers test, she's worried half to death.
Susie's probably praying, don't you dent my new corvette.
He walks into the kitchen and gets a bite to eat, he looks out in
the ole' back yard and sees the Gnarled tree. How long has
he been standing there watching his children play. It was so very
long Ago but to him it was yesterday. Daddy come and push me, I
want to touch the Sky. Daddy build Me a rocket ship and
make it fly way high. Daddy I'm so sleepy will you sing me a
lullaby. He Goes into his office, and there he looks around.
Pictures of his wife and kids are hung Upon the Walls , he smiles
when he sees them, and to memories once more he's gone. He
sits behind his big Oak desk, and then he starts to frown, anger
rages through him when he lays the paper down. Four members of a
family, were killed this tragic day, and alas the same old thing,
the drunk driver walked away.
