The Emblem Of Canada & Home of My Ancestors - The Trefrys

The Trefrys moved to Chebogue Point, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia in 1761 from Marblehead Massachusetts, where they resided after leaving England in the 1600's. My 3rd great grandfather, William Trefy, born in 1812 in Nova Scotia, moved his family to Michigan in the 1840's. This remarkable man had a century button!

Lemuel T. Roberts - September 20, 1837 - August 18, 1923

The incredible life histories of the Roberts & Bates families are chronicled in a rare book penned by my 2nd great grandfather. In it he traces the Bates family back to Lydd, England in 1635 when they took passage on the Elizabeth bound from London to New England. They were one of the founding families of Hingham, Massachusetts. Lemuel was the son of Joel Roberts and Relief Bates. Relief's father, Caleb Bates, and Caleb's father, Benjamin Bates both fought in the American Revolution. In his book, Lemuel writes: "Benjamin Bates served as private in Captain Benjamin Bauney's Company, Col. Ezra May's Regiment. Enlisted September 20, 1777...His grave has been located and marked by the New Connecticut Chapter D.A.R. of Painesville, Ohio." ...And "Caleb Bates served in the Colonial Company, 4th Massachusetts Regiment, commanded by Col. Wm. Shepherd, Revolutionary War, Continental Army. Enlisted July 9, 1780...."

By the way, a century button is a growth on the chest.
