PROPOSAL FOR THE INTER-SOCIETY TALK

NUS MUSLIM SOCIETY OUTREACH SECRETARIAT

SYNOPSIS:

The rise of the West since the Renaissance period has brought about much changes to the world. Changes which varies, from political to socio-economic, is very much influenced by the thoughts and culture set in the West. Secularism became the thought of the day and a lifetime hence de-rooting religion from its position in the society. The mass media has contributed significantly to propagate these values. As a result, we see our society leaving the religious teachings and values, which had once ensured the stability of Singapore's social fabric.

The Singaporean society today, is anticipating an increase in social problems, ranging from drugs, the breakdown of the family structure and abandonment of moral and ethical values for the fulfilment of personal desires. Hence, there is a dire need for immediate and long term efforts to salvage the situation from further disarray. The various religious societies need (i) to project an image as a group which is able to provide solutions to problems facing the society and concurrently, (ii) institutionalise their image and position in Campus.
