Alleged to be the illegitmate daughter of a gifted and beautiful opera singer/actress who gave her baby up in part because of her career. Possibly of Italian descent. Dorotea grew up very headstrong and flirtatious. Catherine Dutcher said to her half-sisters Mary and Nina that Dorothea used to tell Catherine and Caroline about her "beaus and conquests." Maude Helen Walker refused to have any contact with her after Dorothea made a play for her husband during a visit ("...put her hand on his knee...").
Margaretta and Frank had difficulty managing Dorothea and hired a couple (Cupertino) to be chaperones.
When Frank Hoyt died he left everything to Dorothea. The family contested the will, but William Dutcher intervened and the matter was eventually settled in Dorothea's favor. She married a Russian musician (tympani or xylophone plaer?) and they had a son.
The above represents the recollections of Mary Dutcher Fowler and Nina Dutcher Elias.
