Illustrious Revolutionary War soldier whose creer overshadowed by his cousin Isaac the Captor. Commissioned 3 August 1775 Second Lieutenant in Captain Ambrose Horton's company under Colonel James Holmes. Served in the campaign in the siege of St. John's and marched to the siege of Quebec and continued with the army there where he was recorded as Lieutenant under Colonel James Clinton 28 February 1776. Commissioned 21 November 1776 as First Lieutenant in Captain Jacob Wright's company of the Second Regiment of the New York line. In January 1777 was First Lieutenant in Colonel Philip Van Cortlandt's regiment. Commissioned Captain 15 October 1778 but resigned his officer's commission in 1779 because of disabilty from an injury in a fall, but continued to serve as a volunteer until the end of the War. His service record included comman on board Galleys when attacking the Phoenix and Rose at Tarrytown July 1776, Battle of White Plains. Battle of Trenton. Surrender of Burgoyne. Battle of Monmouth. After the war he removed to Pittstown, Rensselaer County where he died.1
