MG John Bradley
![]() MG Bradley was born in 1950 and raised in Portland, Oregon. After graduation from high school, he received an appointment to the US Army Academy at West Point, ending his years there in the top 10% of his class. After being commissioned as an Infantry 2LT, he was stationed with the 1st Armored Division in West Germany. It was there where he met his wife, Juta Schneider. Over the next several years, they were stationed at various posts around the globe, and had two children, David in 1976, and Carol in 1980. He completed Ranger School, and earned both his Airborne and his Air Assault wings.
During the Persian Gulf War, then LTC Bradley distinguished himself as a Battalion Commander in the 24th Mechanized Division, earning a Presidential Unit Citation and a Silver Star. He was promoted to Colonel, and reassigned to the Pentagon, where he spent the next few years.
In 2004, doctors told him that his wife was suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. Even though he had been offered the command of the 82nd Airborne, a very prestigious post, he turned it down, and requested instead the command of the Oregon National Guard, so that his wife could live in the family home in Portland. His request was approved, and his wife and daughter settled in Portland, while he assumed his new command in Salem. His son David, now a Captain in the Army himself, was being sent to his old unit in Germany, the 1st Armored. A year later, as war raged in Europe, MG Bradley received word that David was Missing in Action, right before everything fell apart.
MG Bradley was attending an Independence Day celebration in Salem when Portland was obliterated by a nuclear warhead, killing his wife and daughter. He immediately activated all the units under his command, and putting his personal grief aside, started helping to rebuild the state.
When he received word that the Soviets had swept through Alaska and Canada, and were sweeping through Washington state, he organized the forces under his command and marched north, intent on stopping the Red Army from invading Oregon. He managed to round up many of the fleeing US soldiers, and set a trap for the Soviets. The resulting battle at Centralia, stopped the advance in its tracks, buying enough time for the American soldiers to make it across the Columbia River, trapping the Russians on the other side.
Since then, MG Bradley has become the de facto head of the Oregon Territory, although the Governor is still in office. The loss of his family, and the strain of command over the last few years have taken it's toll. He rarely appears in public anymore, and those that have seen are often shocked how much he has aged. There has been some speculation on who will replace him when he dies, a day that many fear will bring a power struggle.
