Text: Romans 10 : 5 - 15
How beautiful are the feet of those who bring Good News.
Introduction: What is Righteousness of God?
Righteousness of God is defined as being right with God.
Point One:
There are three examples of people who seek to attain the righteousness
of God.
-
People who pursue righteousness by works - "as long as I do good and don't
do bad".
-
People who pursue righteousness by law - "as long as I keep the law".
-
People who pursue righteousness by self-effort - "as long as I do certain
acts to please God".
Point Two
Romans 10 shows the failure of the above three methods of attaining
the righteousness of God.
The Jews did not realise that God has already provided the way to righteousness.
They didn't know the righteousness of God and attempted to establish
their own righteousness.
They did not submit to the righteousness of God.
Point Three:
Is it difficult to attain the righteousness of God? How can anyone
ever find the righteousness of God?
-
There is a right way to be right with God.
-
This righteousness is found in Jesus Christ.
-
This righteousness is attained by faith in Jesus Christ.
-
God has said in His Word: "all have sinned..." humanity cannot
attain the righteousness of God because his law is too hight for us.
-
God has given us Jesus Christ that through His death on the cross, he fulfilled
the requirements of God's law.
-
God says that this is the ONLY WAY!
Point Four:
There are three aspects of Righteousness by Faith:
-
It is simple (Romans 10 : 5 - 10) "believe in your heart and confess with
your mouth". Anyone who trusts in Him; everyone who calls on the
name of the Lord will be saved.
-
It is accessible (Romans 10 : 6 - 8) "the word is near you; it is in your
mouth and in your heart" It is not hidden, it is within easy reach.
-
It is universal (Romans 10 : 11 - 13) "Anyone who trusts....Anyone who
calls...."
Conclusion:
If this is so, then this message must be passed on. What must
we do?
-
Four rhetorical questions for us to consider (Romans 10 : 14 - 15)
-
How can they call if they have not believed?
-
How can they believe if they have not heard?
-
How can they hear if no one tells them?
-
How can anyone tell them if they have not been sent?
Everyone must have the opportunity to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ before
they can decide whether tobelieve or not.
We must therefore recognise that we are send under the authority and
commission of our Lord Jesus Christ. We must therefore be involved
in "telling" the gospel.
Call and challenge: The story of Daniel Soeharto who became a christian
after reading a 12 page gospel material and in 14 years provided reasonable
access tothe gospel for 5 million people through the distribution of gospel
material.
-
Pass one gospel tract to one person a day.
-
Pass one gospel cassette to one person a week.
-
Pass one gospel CD to one person a month.
