Subject: Weekend Update: June 15-18 Date: Tue, 19 Jun 2001 15:29:29 -0400 From: Mark Metcalfe Organization: Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (Not proofread nor re-edited; sorry. Too much hurrying...) Joy went to see her doctor last Friday and received a green light to resume all activities. When she returned home, Joy promptly jumped into the pool and discovered muscles she had forgotten. We are closing the closing the chapter on this saga hopefully to never revisit it. She's pain-free (except for muscle atrophy, of course) and is making strides towards getting all the gardens in shape. Speaking of gardens, Kristen Hunt and Nina Chronopoulos have so far taken advantage of the flora to be found all over our property. We have so much of it growing in the wrong spots that we have encouraged people to see us before going to any nursery for their floral landscaping needs. We have more strawberry plants in places in our yard than we do in the beds where we intended them to be because birds or other animals transported seeds elsewhere. Joy said she has made a few batches of jam just from what we have around the property. While supplies are not unlimited, we still have much to accommodate the locals who want to add to their own properties. Let us know! "Yunn and Bow" joined us for cards and a tour of China on Friday evening. (When my children were little, that's how they referred to Janice Lunn and Meredith Debow.) They seem to be loving retirement and I am green with envy over the travel they've done and the travel they have planned! We were glad to catch the world travelers on a home stay. On Saturday, all six of us swung into chore mode. We call it "all hands on deck." We accomplished a lot towards getting the property ready for summer traffic. Ready of not, we've already begun. That afternoon, we enjoyed the representative company of three families, two more the next day, and another on Monday, and still another tonight. Joy permitted me to inflate my Father's Day gift early; a lounger for the pool. (In writing this, I realize that I neglected to call my father; and I think Joy did, too! Hoo boy are we in the dog house! Sorry Dad!) It poured buckets on Sunday and Joy and Linda M were in charge of the spaghetti dinner at church that evening. (It wasn't for Father's Day but for graduation. Perhaps getting home late drove it all out of my mind! I knew I should have called before the morning church!) I took a half day off yesterday to try to finish painting the spa room. I only have the black window trim left, then touch ups, then we can put away paint brushes and furnish the room. We hope you will be the ones to join us for a time of fun and relaxation next! By the way, Pepperell fireworks occurs on Saturday July 7 this year. If you want to join us on the town field, talk to Joy and me about getting together. A bunch of families have enjoyed spreading the blankets together in years past to enjoy a big show for a small town.
