From: Andrew C Metcalfe Sent: Wednesday, May 08, 2002 2:50 PM Subject: Jr. Weekend Update Yesterday, my Jazz band participated in a competition. Our band has been doing it for years but it is my first year considering that I just joined the Jazz band this year (I really improved in my playing in between those years). We left from my school right when it ended. My mom doing the Paper route for me. This competition was an hour and 40 minutes away getting me home at 11:00 at night. Considering it was a school night, I got home really late and was really tired, and the fact that it was career day today (which in my oppinion is really boring), My gracious mother agreed (after a good reasoning by me) to let me stay home and sleep in a little. Agreeing to mow the lawn when I woke up.So today I got to stay home from school. Back to the competition!!! Now before I tell you what we earned, there is something you have to know about this competition. This competition doesn't hand out a Gold, Silver, Bronze to the best three bands but instead gives you certain scores that add up to a gold, silver, Bronze, and my favorite (cause it is funny), Thanks for participating. So there may be more than one band who earn a silver or a gold and so on. So after all that said, my Jazz Band and I played three pieces : "Nice-and-Easy Blues", "Who's The Bossa", and the Jazz/funk tune (my favorite) "Pick up the Pieces". The three judges put there scores together and gave us (DRUM ROLE).............................. A GOLD MEDAL. Only one other band at that competition got a gold medal. My whole band was jumping off the walls (and the bus I might add). We got on the bus at 9:15 and left for Varnum Brook (my school) singing "We are the CHAMPIONS" and other great songs. Finally we arrived back at my school at about 10:30, unloaded the buses, and I climbed into the eclipse with my dad and told him the news. In which he asked if we had used glow -in-the-dark sticks to show off to the judges (A simpson episode). We laughed and off we went home and I went off to bed. Talk to you later. Bye!!!
