Tue Sep 3 07:32 EDT 1996 Weekend Update: Labor Day - no wind for us It was very good to see the new baby last night, Phil! What a doll! |========== MarkMet@aol.com : 9/2/96 : Weekend Update from ==========| | I'm sending this message from home. Others will get it forwarded from | my work address. | | On Friday night, the Burgess' came over for some Teryaki Chicken and fun. | Mark is a good pinball player, and I should have practiced up before he | arrived, but they would tell you that it wouldn't do me any good. I often | plany better when there is competition, but Mark beat me anyway. | | On Saturday, Russell III came for a visit, and as he said in his family mail, | we had a good time, although too breif. I would have extended their visit | longer, had they accepted my invitation to dump some of the kids and | have 8 of us go to the Lowell Spinners baseball game (a farming team for | the Red Sox). But it would have extended their stay way too late for them | to get back to Marshfield and they insisted that I take my family instead of | giving all 8 tickets away. That meant we cut our visit short (at 6pm). | But I was able to format what is now Jennifer's 286-computer and | reload the operating system. It was tricky and I almost installed my | old 120-MB drive (which I would have) but the last try worked and the | disk was erased so the operating system could be reloaded. I also | doublespaced her 45-MB drive so that she can store around 70-MB | of data on it (after the OS and Windows). It is tough to run a 286, but | it will do all of her term papers. Miranda will likely get this once-spiffy | 486-DX/2-450 when she goes to college and I'll upgrade to something | Russell III will have to envy. :-) | | Russell's system, though, was greek to me because of Windows '95. I wanted | to load all kinds of games through DOS, and in fact used a DOS window to | do just that. The "jet flying" one to which Russell III refers is "Terminal | Velocity" | and it was a shareware CD with three levels. The game is playable but a | little | choppy on my system, but on his system it was smooth as silk! I'm jealous | again! Because of the choppiness on my system, I wouldn't run out and | buy all the 30+ levels of heart pumping exiliration and flight. | | After my rude departure, leaving my brother in the driveway (Joy did not | go with us), I met up with the Pastor (White) and his son Tim, at the | baseball | park. Cadence reserved a block of tickets; what a company. The team mascot | is a green alligator (ever hear of purple Barney?) called the Canaligator. | The | stuffed animal patted my belly on the way into the park! But he kissed | Miranda's | hand! I think I'm more upset about the affront to my personal space! | The game was dominated by the Spinners until the 8th inning when the visting | team made a rally to bring them within one run. We left to beat the crowd, | and | to get home in time to be rested for Sunday. | | Sunday's pace was constant as well. After morning church, we headed over | to the Trecartin's for a surprise 40th birthday party for Cheryl Greenwood. | Cheryl takes delight in pretending she's 29 and tried to say that she was 29 | before she opened the birthday card Joy and I got for her. It said, "there | is | this hole in the universe that can swallow anything... except the story that | you're 29." Excusing ourselves from the party, we rushed home to take | the laudnry off the line so that the much-anticipated hurricane didn't soak | the clothes. We were home 10 minutes before having to turn around | for church. (Kind of sounds a bit like Kendra, doesn't it?) | | After church, we headed up to the Bickoms for Paula pizza and fellowship. | A good time was had by all and we were all glad for an extra day off the | next morning. | | Today (Monday) I arose to complete the Fred and Tracy Hatcher wedding | video compilation from pre-rehearsal to the goodbyes of the newlyweds. | We've been mellowing out, playing competition Tetris, writing this memo, and | other lazy-type things. That's before everyone arrives. Since the hurricane | fizzled, we've invited a bunch of unrelated families to join us for the | evening; | one last hurrah to summer. We got no wind overnight and barely a breeze | during the day. I doubt that we'll get any rain in Nashua NH. Dad's cape | house and probably Russell got drenched. | | Mark | | P.S. Russell, let me help you write up a resume to send to companies. I | wish you had told me about your situation, I would have spent some time | on the resume (although we pretty well filled up what time we had. Still, | I've done some good work on resumes and will help in anyway I can. | | [no sig on AOL) ;`^( | |========================== End of Included Text ==========================|
