Weekend Update: October 4-7

Yesterday, I had jury duty in New Hampshire, which is why this report
is a day later than usual.  We were herded like sheep into a court
room where a criminal trial was to commence on the charge of burglary.
About 50 of us sit down in pews.  Then the clerk draws jurors' names
from a box.  They selected everyone around me so I was left sitting
with no one next to me, in front of me, or behind me.  Boy did I feel
lucky when they released the rest of us.  (I thought he was guilty,
Guilty, GUILTY anyway.)

The weekend in Maine was a rousing success.  Ten of us, including my
lovely wife and myself, ventured north to the woods of Maine where one
can actually see the Milky Way and twice as many stars at night.
The nights were cool but the cabin was hot because the city-slickin'
fluff campers stoked the wood stove so that the room was 84 degrees.
Blue sky dominated the days and we canoed, pitched horshoes, played
ping pong, and a card game called Phase 10.  Most importantly, we
had some heretofore unlikely relationships built by bringing not a
few different people together to enjoy each others' company.

Our kids were scattered all over: Miranda and Jessica with Dave and
Paula Bickom, Emily with Tom and Pam Quattrociocci, and Andrew with
Eric and Linda Magnuson.  We got them all back safely for which we are
very grateful and thankful for those who cared for our children while
we had fun in Maine.

Have I got stories from the trip?  Sure, I do, but I'll save them...
and you.

Next weekend, we return, this time with the kids and then back to
Jury duty.  (guilty, Guilty, GUILTY!)
