Mon Nov 4 07:42 EST 1996 Weekend Update I started ot the weekend bleary eyed because I had to get two teenagers to the church by 6:45 AM on Saturday morning so that they could attend a "Festival of Life" practice in Uxbridge, MA. Festival of Life (often referred to by ENC students as "festering lice" is a New England regional church teen competition; sort of the Olympics of the district. In addition to sport, craft is also entered into the competition. Fortunately, I had the foresight to ask Dennis Scott out to breakfast the night before so I didn't feel like I'd gotten up so early just for my teens. I WOULD get so early just for my teens, but whenever I can combine good things, I will. (Dennis filled me in on everyone in the Windham Church. They started Sunday School yesterday.) We ate at Country Donuts in Tyngsboro. They have the BEST donuts I've ever had. (The eggs were average but the donut lived up to my estimation!) It was a very nice day on Saturday and I took the opportunity to put plastic sheeting up over the screens on my porch. I'm late this year but the job is done and we have a little more privacy for the hot tub again. It reminds me of a Japanese room with paper walls. Hmm... maybe I can get Miranda to paint on the plastic! On Saturday and Sunday, Margaret Scott was visiting our church to fill us in about the compassionate ministries that are currently under weigh in Romania. She gave me her email address (which might have been a mistake). In the Spring, they are going to be filling up one of these shipping containers (about the size of a trailer on a big Mack truck) with supplies for Romania but a lot of this stuff won't cost us a penny because much of it will come from the "stuff" we've got lying around the house, such as unused left over builing materials, used computer components (I have a 120 MB drive and a 5-1/4" diskette drive - hardly used), hinges, nails, hooks, pencils (even used), children's story books, potato pealers, melmac, medical consumables, you name it. What we can clean out of our homes because we don't need it or won't use it can be used in Romania where conditions are still pretty needy. When the time comes, I hope Margaret will send out email and let us know where to drop the stuff. I'm only sorry we have to wait till Spring to lighten the pack-ratting in our homes. The Scott's email address is RomScotts@aol.com.
