Wed Jan 8 11:33 EST 1997 House Update I'll tell you both in one email since you sent mail about the same time. The six contacts yesterday were as follows (I don't know the order). 1. One of our cards was handed to another parent at a boy scout meeting. They have a child that already goes to Fairgrounds school and they are looking at the house today at noon. 2. A guy called and said he had $5000 and asked if we pick up the mortgage or somesuch for a year. We referred him to our banker with the encouragement that with $5k, he might find a program that wouuld permit him to buy. 3. Got a call froma lady at Cabletron (one of my email cards) who said she would do a drive by. 4. Got a call from a card wanting to know where the house was and would refer us to a friend. 5. Got a call from the real estate agent we'll probably list with in a couple of weeks (but hope we won't have to), thanking us for referring her to a friend of our. Asked how things were and said things are picking up unbelievably in the market right now. She offered to help in any way if we sold by owner. 6. Got a call from a real estate agent looking for business. That's actually four possible and we think today's could be promising. Oh, first, Monday's showing resulted in the comment (through his realtor) that he liked the price and the house but that he thought his wife might have reservations about the age of the house (52). So he has dropped to the improbable category. Today's showing sounds promising because (a) our house is suited well for a first-time family purchase and (b) the family that would buy the house would NOT have to move their child from one school to another. Coming from anywhere else, people either have to move or want a better school system to move in the middle of a school year. We're going to give our own efforts in advertising another week and a half, by which time the high tech company postings should be seen as well as the other 3x5 cards we've handed out to be posted at work and at day care centers. Spent last night thinking about where we'll put things in the new house. I will keep you posted, naturally. Joy said (over the phone) that the showing went well. There are some very encouraging signs with this one. The down side is that her husband is away on business and can't see the house until at least the 15th (one week). The friend of the woman bought a house nearby and she commented that she bought a "house" and that what we were selling was a "home." The child of the people looking to buy is already in the Fairgrounds school system which they like. We have to wait a week to see if we dance for joy (not like I haven't done that before). In the meantime, we are cautiously encouraged by this showing. We'll keep you informed (was there ANY doubt?).
