Eleven Years ago tomorrow (1/31/86)... Happy Birthday Emily!

Emily Pearl (EmilyMet@aol.com) was born eleven years ago tomorrow.
We have witnessed her birth many times on video, alternately reversing
the video and running it forwards, in, out, in, out.  We have footage
of Mandy and Jessie (then 5 and 3) taking turns holding the new baby
The nurses brushed her thick tresses into a point so she looked a little
like Woody Woodpecker.  As much as I love my other children, Emily
was without question the easiest baby, except for the first morning
after we brought her home from the hospital.  Emily had slept straight
through the night and Joy sent me in to check on her because she was
afraid something terrible had happened.  Other than an over-full mother
from going a night without a feeding, nothing was wrong; we just had a
baby who slept through the night from the start!

When she was two she could purse her lips between two enormouse cheeks
and say, "Nuke the Duke!" and respond to "Don't worry!" with "Be Happy!"
She called her coat "Tuke", our church Choir Director "Bow", and our
church pianist "Yunn."

Emily was always a helpful child and in second or third grade she
saw a special needs child with his shoe untied.  As she bent over
to tie the boy's shoe, he vomited on her back.  She calmly asked the
teacher if she could go to the girls room to deal with it.  She has
charmed nearly everyone who knows her.

The third child of two third children, Emily has been our "Pearl of great
price" and we thank God for bringing her into our lives.  The name
Emily means "industrious" but the word that still best describes her is
"indominable."  She is one of our treasures and we are very rich indeed.
