Tue May 27 09:23 EDT 1997 Weeekend Update: Memorial Day Weekend "Doing the garden. Digging the weeds. Who could ask for more?" Joy sculpted the vegetable garden by Friday, making distinct raised beds that I will later have to enclose in wooden frames, just like her older sister Faith's garden. The rest of us lugged rocks from one part of the yard to the other part of the yard for Joy to construct two stone circles where her herbs and spices go. The garden looks good. Saturday, we went back to the Nashua house to help the Desrochers get the pool started, identify plants and stuff for them, and split some of the plants for replanting at the Pepperell house. Afterward, the Desrochers came over to see our new house. We planted the vegetable garden that afternoon. Five of the six varieties of lilacs are in bloom these days. The crab apple has shed its blossoms and I'm about ready to begin my late application of pesticides to the fruit trees. Sunday, it rained. On Monday, Andrew walked a mile or so in the Pepperell town parade, while all day I was whistling the theme song to the Andy Griffith show. I got the American flag out front in time for my brother John and his clan, and my parents to arrive for some Memorial Day festivities. The weather was very pleasant. The decorative fish pond, (more appropriately a tadpole pond), was a center of attention for the kids. Ben, Stephen's firstborn who came with Uncle John, even took home a couple of dozen tadpoles in a jar. (Steve, we can spare a few more if any of them didn't make it!) ;-) Joy also split some of our yard plants for John to take back and transplant. I ensured that John took back a plant called Veronica (with a c, but he can spell it with a k if he likes). Perhaps this week, we'll get to the pool.
