Mon Jun 9 08:35 EDT 1997 Weekend Update: somewhere in June Last week I was zoning out during the Caravan Awards Ceremony while Laura Cox announced the competitions in which the children performed at the church district Caravan Roundup. When she said that one of the events was "pea in a spoon" I zoned back into focus with a snap and exclaimed "what?" I took Friday off to attend a day of District Assembly; my first since I was a janitor at the church where they held the proceedings. I was glad that I wore my white shirt that day since they asked the District Chair*person* of the Pastoral Support Committee to come to the microphone and deliver his report. I proved that could read in public. Had I time to prepare, I might have said a few words, but then it is better to say nothing and have people think you a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt. It was good to sit with Dad and have lunch with Mom and Dad. Much of the weekend proper was consumed on preparations and delivery of the children's musical, which Joy directed and which was delivered and received very well. but in the in-between times, we had time to work on the yard. Joy says that this year is the hardest, getting the yard and house the way we want it. Next year, when we move into a maintenance phase, it should be easier; so she says. I have a different perspective. Yes, we're putting in hard work, but I'm more interested in creating than maintaining. I've been excited about getting things ready to enjoy. I have just about pruned all the dead stuff out of most of our flowering bushes and have started to hack living branches off of some maple trees where they grow too low for my liking. Rich and Wendy dropped by on Saturday night, rescuing us from further toil and sweat. They will be house sitting for us while we are in San Antonio and other Texas part. I'm thrilled. It also worked out well for them because they will be de-leading their house during this period. Call Rich and Wendy while we're away. They'll share.
