Fri Aug 29 08:40 EDT 1997 Twenty years of kissing On August 31, 1977, Joy's lips and mine met for the first time and they've been meeting again and again for twenty years. It all happened on the steps of the old Wollaston Church, which are practically the only thing left of the old portion since it was remodelled after the top was put on. A week after this fateful kiss, I asked Joy to marry me. She said no. But within a week more and I had convinced her that there were far worse fates than marrying me, so she accepted. At the wedding 20 months later, my very new father-in-law, Tom Crawford, showed me a bullet on which he taped my name. He said, looking me square in the eye, "If you ever disappoint my daughter, this is for you." Well, let me tell you, after twenty years, I've never disappointed his daughter! ;-) I've cleared any responsibilities for Sunday evening and am heading to Quincy after AM church for the 20-year reinactment of the first kiss. After we sup at the sumptuous table of Helen Metcalfe, then board a ship for a lovely evening harbor cruise, we shall return to the steps of the Wollaston church, (Dad, can I borrow the keys to the church?), sit on the very steps, gaze into each other's eyes as we did that Wednesday evening in 1977, and... well, you know the rest.
