Weekend Update: November 7-9

The past weekend saw the second soggy Saturday and Sunday in a row.
So my leaves remain just where I put them, untouched, on the ground
where they fell (except for the walk).  Instead, I helped Joy set up a
table at the local Pepperell Community Center where the town was
sponsoring its annual craft fair.  Pepperell does this every year to
help raise money for the Fourth of July fireworks display.  Our small
town has about 15 minutes of poppers and boomers, but we get to lie on
a blanket on the baseball field of the elementary school, directly
underneath the light sprays, then get home in a matter of a few minutes.
(In Nashua, the display was longer but taking 2 hours to get home in
snarled traffic made it unpleasant.)

Anyway, Joy rented a table to sell crafts made by Miranda and herself.
Miranda has been doing some pretty spectacular Currier and Ives style
painting on Mason Jars, little wooden hearts and wooden plaques.  We
need to develop a way to keep the paintings safe on the glass; she had
at least four interested buyers who walked away because we could say
they could be washed.  The ones that sold went to older people, where
jellied hands were a low risk factor.

In the meantime, my neice and neice-in-law came for a visit, followed
by the overworked-and-called-in-on-a-Saturday nephew.  I gave a piece
of candy to Erin and told her not to tell Charity I liked her best.
Then I gave a piece to Charity and told her not to tell Erin I liked
her best.  The whole thing fell apart when the young ladies flashed their
candy at each other barely restraining the tongues from protruding out
of their mouths.  We had a good time playing games in our all-too-brief
visit.

On Sunday we kicked back with a fire in the woodstove and a movie on
the "one-eyed-monster."  I think I missed my nap.

Oh, yeah, one last thing.  My wife, Joy, is having a birthday (#38) on
Wednesday.  Does anyone have any suggestions?
