Weekend Update: February 17, 1998

Our home was graced by our friends from across the Pond. Rev. Brian and
Joyce Farmer of Paisley Scotland (or nearabouts) have been on holiday
to the State with my parents, spending some time in sunny and warm
Florida.  They'll be headed back tomorrow, but they made the time to
get up to Metcalfe Manor, exchange hugs and come away with a jar of
"Joy's Strawberry Jamboree."

We're still into our Spring cleaning phase, trying to get the house
in stable condition so that we can turn our attentions outside as
soon as the wintery weather subsides.  We finally tackled the house
basement, and while Joy organized the mess into piles of "trash",
"yard sale", and "storage", I gently wrapped asbestos pipe insulation
with a coat of tin foil and then plastic, and sealed with duct tape.  I
kind of felt like the helicopter pilot who dumped tons of cement over
the Chernobyl melt down site, wondering if the asbestos would get me
someday.  We still have the barn basement to do.

I am discovering that we seem to have more projects than time and money.
However, we have an aggressive plan of painting, mulching, constructing,
and opening so summer at the Manor will be glorious for those coming
for a visit or a stay.  (The work keeps our minds in denial of the changes
we'll be dealing with in September.)
