Mon Jun 1 10:15 EDT 1998 Weekend Update: May 29-31 As I drove to work this morning under a canopy of leaves, I thought, "I'm 20-40 feet below tree level." Anyway, we're about 90% done with the exterior preparations on the house. The shudders went up on Saturday. I even hung out of Andrew's third floor window with one foot caught under his bed for stability to nail them to the wall. I got 43 shudders up which should immediately tell you that one of my windows has a wing missing. I've done what I can to suture and bind the wounds, and leave it nurse Joy to clean and paint the final shudder. Clean up is on tap for this week, restoring order. But as one wise supervisor once commented in reference to my messy office, "even good carpenters create sawdust." Looking ahead, our visitors from Florida arrive on Wednesday, Pop Crawford on Friday (I'll be fetching him this Thursday night), Miranda's graduation from High School on Friday, a party for the Floridians on Saturday, and then next week is also as busy (maybe moreso). HOWEVER, Metcalfe Manor is open for the summer season. The pool is crystal clear now and ready for sampling. If you're local, come over and come often. If you're traveling, we hope you'll be able to visit. We have a place to be shared, not hoarded. The rules of thumb are simple: be kind; get comfortable and relax; watch your kids in the pool (no room for error around water); BYOM (bring your own meal) if you're staying through mealtime; overnight stays need to be cleared with the management and have special rules. ;-) Squirrels and mice are not welcome. Bats must stay outside, too. Lesser rules include putting the frogs back in the pond (unharmed), you pick what you can eat (depends on availability), turn off the lights behind you, let someone in management know when the toilet paper runs out, no rollerblading in the house (Ben), bedrooms are off-limits except on tour. I reserve the right to make up rules, especially if I am teaching you how to play a new game. :-) :-) Miranda's graduation party in on Saturday, June 13, if you want to come and wish her well (RSVP). God bless.
