Subject: Weekend Update: March 26-28 Date: Mon 3/29/99 7:59am A couple of weeks ago I reported that Jessica's driver's license exam was postpone. Jessica doesn't mind being part of the attention but she doesn't quite care to be the center of attention. Well, that's too bad for this week's edition because a lot has happened for her in the past week. She told me that she preferred that I didn't say anything about the driver's test until she was sure to be successful. Her test was this past Wednesday and she only made one error, turning left when they said right. Her instructor and driver's test administrator were chatting it up and they took the blame for that, so Jessica is now on the road. As several of you parents already know, this also means the auto insurance premiums outpace the privilege, but it will be good to have an extra driver around again... we think. The other "draw attention to Jessica and make her uncomfortable" event happened yesterday when she was baptized. In our church, each person to get dunked has some last words (their testimony) and words and a prayer from someone in whom they place their love (that would be me!). I told people that the name Jessica meant "wealthy" or "extravagant" and that Rose was "a flower of beauty and fragrance"; that Jessica was given over to God from the moment we knew she was on the way - like the perfume that was poured out on Jesus' feet - and now she is old enough to come to Him herself. It was a great moment for all of us. Now I'll tell you (as breifly as I can) about the rest of us. My niece the Diva, Charity, performed her Senior Recital on Saturday and all the Crawford Clan (and Grandma Scheuermann) turned out (minus 3 of my own children who were hither and yon yet again). Chat (as the rest of us call her) belted out one aria after another; I taped it for Hope and posterity (just another name for Tom). Erin sported some pheremone perfumery which was strangely attractive but I won't go any farther with that on this distribution list. Dad Crawford arrived for several pleasant days ahead of the event. Hope, Tom, and Tom's Mom, then Faith and John, and three friends of Tom's also joined the festivities and accoutrements of Metcalfe Manor. (By the way, the girls were in Nashua at a quiz meet; Emily came home with a special trophy for being most like Jesus. Neat!) Despite all the event-mania for the weekend, Tom managed to put new brakes on my van and we were able to do some more pruning and transplanting (adding red raspberries to the fruit stock and future jams!). This week, we scope out the stores for sales on Coke. Easter is just around the corner and I'm proud of my children for their Lenten sacrafices that amounts to more than a year's tithe of something they held dear. Have a great week folks!
