Subject: Weekend Update: May 12-15 Date: Mon 5/17/99 9:18am We've begun to put a photo album together of our trip. I was unhappy with several of my photographs because of the quality of camera I had, but a second look through them showed me that they will provide us with good memories. I noted that almost everytime we had someone take our picture with our camera, they didn't properly center us in the photo. It took Joy and I a day or so to regain our land legs, even though the movement of our cruise ship was hardly anything to mention. But it didn't take long for us to get back into the swing of things. We cut the lawn and opened the pool. Yes, the pool is open, clear, and already inaugurated for the season by Andrew who has been in on both Saturday and Sunday. It is not as cold as you might think (66 degrees) but only warm enough for young skin and bones. With the opening of the pool comes the open invitation to come and use the pool. Someone asked me if day care was provided to which I responded "whatever day care you provide." (Please bring your children but PLEASE watch your children for their safety.) Also, we often have an abundance of crops, so stash a container in your car when you come; you never know what is ready to be picked. The yardwork continues with the planting of the vegetable garden this week. Joy's mother and her mother's mother swore that the time to plant your garden was between the new and full moons in May. That's this week, I think, so Joy will be testing the family folklore. The crabapple is shedding its confetti-like petals now and the lilacs are in full bloom. Lillies are next. We see also that the plum crop is coming back this year. Rhubarb is just about ready to pick. My father-in-law arrived Wednesday evening, ten minutes *after* we had already left for a little dinner before church to celebrate the day of our 20th anniversary. We hardly saw him because of a board meeting on Thursday, and musical rehearsal on Friday. Friday, more relatives arrived as the big day approached for my neice Charity. On Saturday, she graduated with a Bachelors degree in Music from Gordon College. Ken Olsen, founder of the now-subsumed Digital Equipment Corporation, was the keynote speaker. As people gradutated, we decided to cheer for students who didn't have much or a cheering section. After the deed was done and the transfer of diploma witnessed, we all returned to the Manor for some cookout grub and family chatter. It is always good fun to have everyone around and for that we are glad of special occasions. Have a good week folks!
