Subject: Weekend Update: Memorial Day Weekend Date: Tue 6/1/99 9:19am Miranda came home from college last Wednesday. She left some stuff behind with a friend and still came home with as much as when she left. Trouble is, her room was already full for times she would come home from college during the school year. So, she spent several days trying to fit all of her stuff into her space. We're glad she is home. She will soon be working again at UPS for the summer. On Friday, Cadence sponsored an employee event to see the new Star Wars movie. I was able to also purchase two other tickets for Joy and Miranda. The other children were rather put out because they couldn't go unless I took them out of school early, which made them all the more put out. We enjoyed the entertainment, except that I should learn not to drink all of my soda before the movie starts and then sit int he middle of a very full row of people. (I did not do the "Bugs Bunny thing - pardon me, excuse me, pardon me".) Anyway, that started off our three-day weekend, which was warm and sunny up here in the northeast. I filled two tanks with propane (with a third already in use) so I am prepared for the summer cookout season! The pool temperature inched up while the air temperatures soared, but for Joy and me, yardwork was the watchword for much of the weekend. Our efforts are being rewarded as the outdoors is getting very close to moving into maintenance mode. This is despite the fact that Jessica and Emily were unavailable to help around the homestead because they were off on yet-another-but-special-invitational quiz weekend. Andrew and Miranda did help (some) but the pool sang a siren song to them which they could not resist (and I don't blame them). Many bushes were clipped, weeds sprayed, plants planted, insects insecticided, and most importantly the blueberry bushes were netted. Bring on the fruit! On Memorial Day, we paused in the morning to walk to Railroad Square to watch our town parade. In Pepperell, almost half the town is in the parade while the other half turns out to watch the parade. It never lasts very long and they even have to pad the parade with the little league baseball and soccer teams, the scouting programs, and the twirlers. But it is always fun. We had several guests join us over the weekend (coming and going) including representatives from the Metcalfe, Nichols, Landell, Lane, Mohn, Dee, Gonzalez, O'Malley, Christmas, and Allen families. To us, it is the people that make a weekend worthwhile and wonderful. I am looking forward to all the people who have scheduled stays with us and to all the people who will be dropping in to say hello and enjoy the place.
