Subject: Weekend Update: August 6-8 Date: Mon 8/9/99 9:02am August is the month where school begins to loom quickly on the near horizon. Get in those last trips, those last real swims, and back-to-school shopping. I used the past week to try and catch up on some projects, such as transferring the White-Casler wedding video to VHS, video-taping and transferring 40-year old slides, sawing and setting horseshoe pits out behind the pool, and cleaning and reorganizing the house basement. We're working pretty steadily towards the wedding reception to be held at the Manor on August 21 (not that anyone's going to be shown the basements). (Maybe we'll find a "wedding gift" by rummaging through the basement stockpile!) Although there is some ambivalence, Miranda can't wait to get back to college, which was in serious jeopardy when she came down with mono. The mono was caught early and mild enough that she only lost a week or so of pay so we're a bit more comfortable that she has her next semester worked out. One of the things I neglected to add in last week's update was Jessica's trip to NYC (Nazarene Youth Conference) in Toronto, Canada. Of particular note to parents of a soon-to-be senior in high school is the $1000 scholarship Jessica won to the Nazarene College of her choice. She did this by visiting every college booth at NYC, which, I imagine could be sort of like enduring a time-share sales pitch to get a couple of paper bags they might call luggage. But her time was well spent because she won the drawing to bring down her first years' college number by a grand. Emily is off to camp this week; the last for the people in our house. Andrew turned 11 a little over a week ago. I think he's been into the lawn fertilizer because he seems to be growing again. (Speaking of which, our yard sale efforts on Saturday netted me over $100 worth of 4-step lawn fertilizer for $10. Don't you just love a bargain?) I am looking for some of that spare time my cousin's cousin uses for golfing, so I can grab a little more leisure this summer, but I'm not complaining. Life is good.
