Subject: Weekend Update: Sepetmber 25-26

Chores.  We think grubs invaded our yard for the past couple of years
because some areas of weed grass grew larger.  We've taken over the
"four step" process figuring that we could ruin our own lawn for half
the price that the professionals would charge us to do a lousy job.
Now that the Autumn is here, we did the drudgery of digging out
the weed grass from those areas and planted new grass seed.  If we
reclaim much of what we worked on, it will make next year's battle
that much easier.

There were so many yard sales but so little time this past weekend.
Since the yardwork swallowed most of our time, we only got in a few
sales between home and the transfer station.  But I got the bargain of
the year, picking up another set of hand pruners for a nickel!  Next
Spring, I'll be giving an ambidextrous Edward Scissorhands impression.

The pool is still "open" per se, but that is only because we will
install a new liner before putting it to bed for the winter. I'm glad
our friend warned us last fall to make this our last season with the
current liner (after he patched over 30 holes) which gave us a year to
prepare for a sizable chunk of change for the new liner.  It's less of
a blow than if you don't have the year to prepare.

We've scheduled this Saturday to find an orchard and pick apples; a
treasured family event (which is because all of our family events are
treasured).  We've invited others to join us and come back to the
Manor for a BYOM cookout. You're invited, too!  We'll help prepare
apples for freezer bags (with an apple corer-peeler-slicer gadget) and
share some apple desserts.  If we get some more of this fine weather,
it will be a perfect day of fellowship and fun.
