Subject: Weekend Update: Joy turns 40 - for real

Last Tuesday, my resistance was steamrolled and a nasty cold took
progressive control of my health.  On Friday, Joy's 40th birthday,
I left work early to try and recoup my strength and salvage dinner.

Jessica and Emily were off on a quiz weekend; brought home some
trophies.  And Joy arranged for Andrew to stay overnight at a friends
house.  The stage was set for a nice evening alone.

We started at On the Border, a Mexican restaurant.  With just minutes
before our beeper announced that our table was ready, Don and Rachel
Silva showed up at the restaurant so we quickly made arrangements to
seat 4.  After a meal of steak, chicken, ribs, and salmon (you can
assign who had what), the four of us wandered the nearby Pheasant Lane
Mall until it closed.  Joy did not find a suitable gift for me to
purchase. She did however have the fire going at home and we spent a
nice evening alone.

On Saturday, I did as little as possible because dinner number 2 and
Christmas Canata rehearsal were planned for the evening.  Eric and
Linda Magnuson shared their gift certificate with us at Bainbridges
restaurant.  There were three chicken parmegians and one French Dip
sub (you can assign who had what).

I stayed home all day on Sunday and intend to make a short day of
today, if possible.  I fly to Portland Oregon tomorrow afternoon.

Joy seemed to enjoy the weekend commenting that she thought I was a
nice guy despite the fact that I got her no card, nor flowers, nor
gift on her real 40th birthday.  You all probably think she's whacked
in the head - and perhaps she is - but I believe she means it.  She
knows I mean it too when I think she is my favorite person in the
world.
