Jacob Van Woerdt
(Van Woort, Van Woerd, Van Worten and Van Woert)

Japik (Jacob), the son of Jacob Teunisse van Schoenderwoerdt and Anna Loockerman, was born October 30, 1698. He married Hendrikje (Hendrikkie) Oothout (Oothoud), October 17, 1723; by Petrus Van Driessen of the Dutch Reformed Church, Albany, NY. (Ref. A.D.C. - mar. 7). She might have been the daughter of Jan and Aaltie Oothout. (Ref. A.D.C. #55 & 59)


According to Munsell in "Collective History of Albany", vol. 1, page 197, he inherited the property in Albany from his father Jacob Teunisse and was called Jacob Van Woert, Jr. (According to Pieter Van Woert's will, (3rd son of Jacob Teunisse van Schoenderwoerdt) he inherited some of his father's property also. - I.V.W.)
Jacob Van Woort was listed among the Freeholders in the Manor of Rensselaerswyck in the year 1742. (Ref. A.A.M. - vol. 2, ed. Vol. 2, page 283)

(The bills for palls apparently were not always paid promptly. Jacob Van Woerdt was supposed to have died May 13, 1765. - I.V.W.)


The following deeds were found in the Albany County Clerk's office, Albany, NY.

Book 8, page 92 - Date October 6, 1768 - Recorded Oct. 17, 1768 - Jacob Van Woert, deceased, by Heirs, grantors - Rebecca Dox, the widow of Abraham, grantee - Lot on west side of highway leading from Albany to Watervliet, south by Rebecca Barhydts' lot, north by Gerret and Andrew Marselis.

Book 8, page 92 - Date October 6, 1768 - Recorded Oct. 17, 1768 - Margaret Van Woert, et al., grantor, - Rebecca Dox, widow of Abraham - property as described above. The heirs were, as found in these two deeds, Jacob, Petrus and Louis Van Woert, Isaac Lansingh and Anna his wife, Cornelius Van Nefs and Alida his wife, Tillis Winne and Tietje his wife, Harme Fort and Rebecca his wife, Isaac Slingerlandt and Eva his wife, and Margaret Van Woert, children and devises of Jacob Van Woert, late of the Manor of Rensselaerwyck, deceased.

He died either August 26, 1746 or May 26, 1748.

3. Anneke (Annatje), bap. Nov. 5, 1727; Wit. Ruth V. Woerd, Maria Gerritsen; (Ref. A.D.C. #62). She married Isaac Lansing about 1746. (Ref. -M.A. -4 -140)

4. Alida, bap. Dec. 2, 1729; Wit. M. and Fytie Marselis; (Ref. A.D.C. #65). She was married to Cornelius, the son of Gerret Van Esch (Van Ness), about 1750. (Ref. M.A. - 4 - 184c). In Cornelius Van Ness' will, he writes that Alida Van Woert was his second wife. (Ref. N.Y. -60 -360). "Young Cornelius Van Ness, in 1750 after his marriage with Alida Van Woerdt, a sister of Captain Lewis Van Woerdt of Tioshoke, returned from New York City to St. Croix Manor to reside there with his father." Their children were as follows:

5. Sara, bap. Oct. 2, 1731; Wit. P. V. Woerdt, Sara Gardenier; (A.D.C. #69) She was married to Abraham, the son of Jacob Fort and Sara de Wandelier, Nov. 18, 1752. Abraham Fort was baptized Feb. 3, 1731. She died Nov. 22, 1754. He married second Eva Bennewe, July 1, 1758. (A.D.C. - mar. 17)(M.A. - vol. 4, page 123)

6. Fytje, (Tietje, Fietje), bap. Oct. 14, 1733; Wit. Sand. V. Woert, Alida Marselis; (Ref. A.D.C. #73). She was married to Jillis (Jelles, Julius, Tillis), son of Kiliaan Winne, May 5, 1754. (Ref. A.D.C. - mar. 18, & M.A. -vol. 4, page 184w)

7. Petrus, (Petrus Jacobse, Peter), bap. Nov. 9, 1735; Wit. P. and A. V. Woerdt; (Ref. A.D.C. #78)

8. Louis, (Lewis), bap. Jan. 11, 1738; Wit, Louis and Hiltje Credel; (Ref. A.D.C. #81)

9. Myndert, bap. Feb. 17, 1740; Wit. Myndert and Rebecca Marcelis; (Ref. A.D.C. #86). "Myndert, the ninth child of Jacob and Hendrikje Van Woert, died August 16, 1744." (Ref. D.S., vols. 8 & 9, page 47)

10 Rebecca, bap. May 16, 1742; Wit. Ruth and Elizabeth Van Woert; (A.D.C. #90). She was married to Harmon, (Harman), bap. Jan 8, 1737, the son of Jacob Fort and Sara de Wandelier, and brother of Elizabeth and Abraham Fort, Sept. 6, 1760. The license was granted August 19, 1760. 11. Eva, bap. Mar. 11, 1744; Wit. Lodewyk and Hiltje Schredel; (A.D.C. #94). She was called Eva Van Woort. (N.Y.M. -435 & M.B. -3, -449). She was married to Isaac, the son of Teunis and Elizabeth Slingerland, Dec. 27, 1760. The license was granted Nov. 27, 1760 (A.D.C. -mar. 23)(N.Y.M.)(M.A. -4, -166).

12. Myndert, bap. May 25, 1746; Wit. Myndert Muselis, Rebecca Dox;(A.D.C. #104).

13. Margarieta (Margarita, Margaret), bap. Dec. 4, 1748; Wit. Corn. Ouderkerk, Maritje Oothoud (A.D.C. #115). She was married to John (or John D.) Van Esch (Van Ness) Nov. 7, 1773. (M.A. -4, -184c)(A.D.C. -mar. 27). Their children was as follows:

2. Jacob, bap. April 7, 1776; (A.D.C. #233)

3. Johannes, bap. Sept. 28, 1777; (A.D.C. #239)

The baptisms of the above children were recorded in the Dutch Reformed Church of Albany, NY. The record of burials were kept by the sexton.
