Petrus Van Woert

Petrus (Pieter), the son of Louis Van Woert and Catharyntje Van den Bergh, was born October 7, 1783 and baptized at the Schaghticoke Dutch Reformed Church, Schaghticoke, N.Y. He married Permila Tippett



Pieter Van Woert married Permila, the third child of John Tippett (Tiblets) and Mary (Polly) Talmage before 1823. Permila Tippett was born February 1801 (1800 ?) and died in 1888 (1889 ?), a few days past her 88th birthday. (Ref. N.Y. - vol. 51, p. 275)


Pieter Van Woert and Permila Tippett were married in Ballston, NY, and were still living there in August 1829 as she is mentioned in the local records. After her husband's death she spent her last years in the home of her sister, Jane Manning, South Danby, NY.

Sometime after 1829 they had moved to a farm near Candor, Tioga County, NY. Permila died in February, a few days after her 88th birthday, but the exact year is not positively known. Their children born, viz: 1st. - Henry, 1823; 2nd. - Lebbeus, December 18, 1833. Henry Van Woert is known to have had at least one child and possibly others. Between the period of 1867-1870, he moved to some place in Texas unknown to his surviving relatives. His known child was James whose exact residence in Texas is not known. Lebbeus Van Woert married Irene Amelia Grinnell. (Ref. N.Y. - vol. 51, p. 348)

Liber 72, p. 389 - Date: October 3, 1864 - Timothy Persons & Deborah, his wife, of the town of Maine, County of Broome, grantor - Peter Vanwert of the Town of Spencer, grantee - Property situated in the Town of Candor.

Liber 82, p. 545 - Date: March 2, 1867 - Peter Van Woert & Permila, his wife, of the village of Spencer, grantor - Ann Saunders of Danby, County of Tompkins, State of New York, grantee - Property located in the Town of Spencer, the Watkin's & Flint Purchase.


Their known children were as follows:

1st. - Henry, born in the year 1823;

2nd. - Lebbeus B. (Lewis B.), born December 18, 1833
