Hey..........Thanks for stopping in!!!    Hi there! This page is dedicated to "getting started" in Ham Radio and the circuits that beginners usually find the most fun in the Puget Sound Area.

Lots to Learn..........But it is easy and FUN!!! There are a few ways to go about getting on the air, but before you "key up" that transmitter, you must obtain a License from the FCC. Yep, there's a test involved, but believe me, its easy and fun. There are several organizations that offer classes and if your a "do it yourselfer" then a study book will provide an excellent avenue for you to prepare for the exam. Actually, to utilize the VHF repeaters in the area you'll have to take 2 short exams. If your interested at all, check out a page posted by the Amateur Radio Relay League. It's an excellent summary of what Ham Radio is all about and provides a very warm welcome to the nation's number one Hobby.

To the Mountains

Western Washington Repeater Association
This Group sponsors a repeater located on Gold Mountain which does an excellent job of extending the coverage of a 2 watt VHF hand held radio. It operates on 146.620 MHZ and allows users to make short phone calls to locations within the local Bremerton calling area from any location within radio range. I've called home to Port Orchard while traveling northbound on I-5 through Seattle. This repeater has been providing solid service to the community for over 20 years and is sure to be in operation for plenty more.

K7PP Repeater System

This Repeater system operates on a frequency of 147.200 MHZ extending the range of a 2 watt VHF hand held radio throughout all of Western Washington and is linked to Eastern Washington and Hawaii. Yep, you heard right.......on 2 watts you can talk to hams in Hawaii and on the other side of the Cascades. Additionlly, there is autopatch (Phone call) capability to destinations within the local Seattle calling area from anywhere within range of the system. K7PP has managed to create a wireless VHF network linking up Hams virtually Statewide and then some. It's exciting just listening!!! This repeater has been in operation for several years and has earned a reputation for innovativation and technical achievement.
