Colonel George Reade Col. George Reade arrived from England to the Virginia Colony at Yorktown, 1637 with Governor Harvey and lived with the Harvey family several years. He married Elizabeth Martiau, 1641. He served as Deputy-Secretary of the colony 1640-42; Burgess for James City County, 1649; Burgess for Charles County, 1656. He was appointed to the Council in 1658 for the rest of his life. He was one of the 12 Councilors joining the Governor in dissolving the Assembly. He acquired 2000 acres on the Piankatank River, vacating the Chiskiack Indians.

Here lyeth intered Coll Please note that William & Mary Quarterly, series 2, Volume 11, No. 2, suggests that his birth year is more likely to be circa 1616. Evidence to his death year suggests 1671.
