The left margin contains the individual identification number. The last digit of the number represents the order of birth of the siblings. The remaining digits are the identification number of the parent. 1. Christopher Tompkins b. 17 Oct 1705 on North River, Gloucester Co.,VA,
d. 16 Mar 1779 Caroline Co., VA, where he lived upwards of 40 years.
His home was built circa 1736 called "Maple Swamp" near Chilesburg. The home
existed many years, owned by descendants of Christopher and Joyce Reade,
his wife. They married, 1729, on Gwynn's Island. Joyce was born 6 Mar 1701,
on Gwynn's Island at the home of her mother and died in Caroline Co.,
8 Aug 1771. Record of her birth and death are in old family bible.
She was the daughter of Thomas Reade and Lucy Gwynn.

d. 28 Apr 1875, Pike Co., MO. He came to Missouri about 1810, and spent some
time in St. Louis. served as Sec. of State 1813-18 to Gen. William Clarke
when he was Governor of Missouri Territory at St. Charles, Mo. He
volunteered as a Ranger during the War of 1812 and served for 2 years.
He received a pension and was granted land in Pike Co., MO for his
services. While in fort on the bank of Missouri River, Cape Gray,
St. Charles, MO, 24 May 1814, he married Martha "Patsey" Gilbert,
b. 17 Feb 1795, d. 30 Dec 1830, daughter of Samuel Gilbert, a wealthy
planter, formerly of Russellville, KY, who moved to Saverton, MO.
After peace was declared, William and Patsey moved to St. Louis County
where they remained until 1818, then moving to Salt River Township,
and settled on a tract of land near what is now Tompkins Station on
Keokuk, St. Louis, & NW Railway. He erected a small loghouse in a
dense forest. They opened out a farm and reared a family of six children.
He was elected Justice of the Peace, holding the office for 20 years.
Patsey was buried on the Gilbert Farm Graveyard near Saverton, Ralls Co.
William was buried on the farm of his third son, Christopher Weeden Tompkins,
now Droste Farm, Pike Co.

upon death of his father, 1772, which he had purchased at estate
auction of Moore, abt 1771., but clear title could not then be given,
and he died next year. There was a suit between trustees of the
Moore estate and William Tompkins, executors, which was decided in
favor of Tompkins. Capt. Richard Tompkins took oath as Major, 1806.
He was in the War of 1812 and had a company of cavalry.
Catherine and Richard lived at "Mansion Hill", Caroline Co., VA.
All of their eight children were born at "Mansion Hill".
Five of the children never married.
