The Spirit and the Soul, the Man and the Woman
The Mystery of Christ and the Church (part 2)


The soul (the mind, will and emotions of man) must be renewed daily by washing of water by the word which is the work of the Holy Spirit of God through Christ in us the hope of glory.


The re-birth of our spirit is referred to as as the rebirth of our spirit-man in Christ which is spoken of in the masculine sense, -for example: "Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature" (2Cor.5:17a) whereas every man's soul is (or should be) referred to in the feminine sense:

"My soul shall make her boast in the Lord,
the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad."

(Ps.34:2 KJV)

Mankind is deceived in his soul (represented by the woman). Man is deceived in his own mind to do his own will, which is what Eve did. Man's lower nature which we call, the "self," departed from the will of God through the operations of his soul which was beguiled by the serpent.


The carnal mind of the flesh departed from the leading of the Spirit of God through mankind's failure to keep watch over his own soul. Adam was a type of the spirit-man, woman was a type of man's own soul, a type of his very self. (see also Eph. 5:28, 29) Man him "self " was deceived in his soul -in his own mind by the subtle reasoning & craftiness of the serpent.

In the garden of Eden, the soul of man, i.e., represented by the woman acted without her spiritual covering -without Adam, as a type of the spiritual covering. Man left his soul uncovered -and so, the woman acting with her head uncovered, i.e., having no power on her head she (the soul of man) was deceived by another spirit "For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels" (see 1 Cor. 11:3-10 KJV)

The soul of man him self was deceived when WOMAN which represents man's mind or soul was beguiled by listening to and receiving the counsel of the serpent by which the serpent convinced "her" (the mind of man) that God MEANT something less than what God said, even though the woman knew what God Himself had spoken to them both in the Garden.

The serpent tempted the soul or mind of man to try to "be like the Most High God" -duping mankind into believing that through the knowledge of good and the knowledge of evil that man could be immortal & all wise, -as God.

Notice the fact that Satan appealed to the woman, to the soul, -that is, he appealed through reasoning to the woman, and Satan's discourse with the woman is a type of the seduction of the mind or soul of man.

Satan's seduction of the woman is a type of the devices of the enemy in that Satan tempts man by appealing to the mind, to the soul of man; Satan pitches his appeal to man's mind, to the desires of his soul and to man's feelings, even using the intellectual powers of the soul or mind of mankind against man.

Satan did not present his deception by appealing directly to the spirit of man, but instead he approached man's weaker vessel, which is his own soul: man's own mind, will and desires. And Satan deceived the soul of man by also appealing to man's own limited powers of reason and logic concerning what God had said.


BECAUSE the woman, -representing the self, the soul or mind of mankind, did NOT defer back to the wisdom of her spiritual head (Adam -the spirit man) she was easily beguiled by the serpent. Why? -because women are foolish, NO! Because spiritual things cannot be analyzed by the mind or discerned by the soul of man.

Spiritual things (like the spirit of truth versus a spirit of error) must be spiritually discerned, and that by the Spirit of the Lord -for us, on our behalf and the things of the spirit must be communicated to us by God's Spirit to man through the reborn spirit-man (and not the soul) of man.

BECAUSE the woman (represting the soul, or mind of man) did not refer back to her spiritual head, and because she did not submit her own perception of what seemed right in her sight to the Lord, she was decieved.

BECAUSE the woman -representing the easily beguiled mind of man, did not submit what she thought to the Spirit of the Lord through the "spirit-man" -i.e., which is her spiritual covering -then, she (the mind of man) was seduced and beguiled by Satan's lies.

BECAUSE she, -the soul or mind did not inquire of God concerning what the serpent said, through failing to submit her "self" to the Spirit of the Lord -by failing to defer to God through her own spirit-man (represented by the headship of Adam) the woman was deceived by another spirit (the lying spirit of error himself) because her head was not covered. "SHE" -the soul, or mind of man did that which she thought was right in her own sight. The soul or the carnal mind of man did that which man perceived to be right in the eyes of man, in mankind's own understanding.


"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge HIM and HE shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil." (Prov. 3:5-7 KJV)


She, -the woman, the lower self, -the soul, the mind & will of man, did that which was right in man's own sight because "she" (the soul or self) submitted itself to the counsel of another spirit.

Satan, through a lying spirit of error convinced in the woman, convinced man in his own mind to do that which the human intellect perceived was in man's sight which man was made to think was "good to make one wise"!

The scripture tells us that Adam was not deceived but the woman was deceived. Adam allowed the woman to lead him (the soul usurped the authority of the spirit) and even though Adam was not spiritually deceived, he chose to follow her in the transgression. When the woman, a type of the soul of man was deceived, then the human spirit transgressed the commandment of God and thereby fell from grace.)

Although Adam did sin by following the woman in the transgression, nevertheless Adam is still a type of Christ, Just as David, though he was an adulterer was still a veiled type of Christ, Adam in the account of the fall in the Book of Genesis -though he sinned, is still a veiled type of Christ in that, "he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin" (cf. 2Cor.5:21 KJV) Jesus Christ took upon his own self the sins of the world, "and the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered among the transgressors" (Mark 15:28 KJV)

"And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." (Gen. 2:22-24 KJV)

It is said that the salvation message of the gospel is written in Genesis and that the things that happened in the Old Testament to Israel are examples for us, upon whom the end of the world is come. In Genesis is a type or shadow of Christ and the Church, and of the apostasy -the falling away from the truth. In fact, in Ephesians Chapter 5 when Paul is teaching this mystery concerning the man & the woman, the mystery of Christ and the Church, Paul quoted from Genesis chapter 1.

Before the Fall of man, when God first presented the woman to the man, when Adam first sees her, Adam prophesies over her concerning the mystery of Christ and the Church.

Adam had no mother and God was His Father, -yet when the woman is presented to him, Adam prophesies saying: "...This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. (Gen. 2:22-24 KJV)

Woman is the feminine tense of Adam's name. (ish and isha) Adam is a type or a shadow of Christ, and we are called by His name to be found in Him. Before the Fall, the woman was hidden in man, she was one with him (as we are called to be in Christ) and she was "of his bone and of his flesh" (*we are now "bone of his bone and flesh of His flesh") and the woman bore Adam's name: "and God called their name Adam"(Gen.5:2 KJV)


Likewise as believers, our own selves, our lives, the souls of men are called to be hidden in Christ, Who is Himself the Second Adam. Jesus Christ Himself, is the "One Spiritual (New) Man" -in whom and by whom, we are called to be hid. We are called by grace through the faith of Christ to be restored to Him and to be in Him -one Lord, one Spirit, one body "bone of His bone and flesh of His flesh". We are called by God to be hid with Christ in God as members of His Body which is the "Church" The renewed souls of men compose the Body of the Christ, which is collectively called to be His Bride.

After the fall, -there was a change in the nature of the man and the woman. And because of that change of nature, Adam changed her name from "woman" to Eve because she was "the mother of all living." (Gen. 3:20 KJV)

(STILL SPEAKING IN TYPES AND SHADOWS)

Consider and apply these types or shadows:

(1) of Adam as the type of the spirit-man, and of Adam as a type of Christ Himself in relation to the Headship of His Spirit over the soul which is what the woman is a actually a type or shadow of. (2) The woman is the type of the soul, of the Church (composed of the souls of men) -the woman is also a type of the lower nature, the self, the mind, the will and the emotions of man.

(We are not to be led by the soul, i.e., the mind of the flesh, but are instead to walk according to our spirit-man in response to the leading and unction of the Holy Spirit.)


Take these types and the explanation you have been given here prayerfully before the Lord and ask the Lord to show you what the Spirit is really saying by: "I suffer not a woman to teach, or usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence"

The woman (soul, self, mind, will &/or emotion of man) is not to teach, but only the Spirit of God through the reborn spirit-man! The command not to allow the woman "to usurp the authority of the man" means: the soul should not be allowed to teach.

The soul, the carnal mind of man, man's will, his sentiments, his reasonings, his intellect, -the lower self --ought to be denied, the soul (woman) should not be allowed to teach but the Spirit only, and man's own carnal mind (the woman) is commanded to remain in silence, submitted to the Spirit of God.

The command not to allow the woman to teach means that the mind of the flesh, the human intellect, man's feelings, our sentiments, our intellectual skills, our carnal human perception -"self' should not be allowed to teach spiritual things must be spiritually discerned and taught by the Spirit.

By the same token, what is right in our own sight should not be allowed to oppose or usurp that which is "of the Spirit" but we should submit our perception of things to the Lord. Our way of thinking, our carnal mind, or human perception, reason and logic should all be denied, brought into submission to the Lord by His Spirit.

We are not to be led by the mind of the flesh, we are not to be led by our feeling (by the soul) but instead we are to walk in the Spirit by the power of the Holy Spirit, with our souls submitted to our re-born spirit-man in everything, -as unto the Lord. For the head of every soul (woman) is the reborn spirit-man -and the Head of every (reborn) spirit-man is Christ, who is the Head of the Church, which is His Body.


Regardless of physical anatomy, -no matter which physical plumbing your flesh tabernacle happens to have: if you are preaching or teaching from your own understanding of God's word, teaching the counsel of your own mind, according to man's own carnal or human perception, -if man is exerting his own will and/or his own sentiments, if you are teaching your own theories, opinions, doctrines and commandments of men rather than allowing the Lord Himself to teach by His Spirit, -then you are "the woman" who ought to sit down and be silent in the Church! You are "the woman" who should not be allowed to usurp the authority of the Spirit.

If you are doing these things, then regardless of your physical gender, you are "the woman" who should not be allowed to speak or teach -no matter where you got your "ministerial certificate" regardless of how many theological degrees you happen to have attached to your name.

For the purpose of understanding the mystery of Christ and the Church (of which Adam prophesied in Genesis and to which Paul the Apostle also refers in Eph. Chapter 5) please make use of these types of the man -referring to the spirit man &/or to the Headship of the Spirit of the Spiritual New Man which is the Lord Himself, i.e., Jesus Christ who is the Husband of our souls. Apply the type of the woman, as the soul, as self, the mind-will-and-emotions of man.

Paul used the example of the relationship of the husband and the wife to teach concerning spiritual submission of the soul to the things of the Spirit. I am not suggesting that you in any way alter the meaning of the word of God, but in order to help lend understanding to the "mystery of Christ and the Church" to which Paul was referring when he wrote Ephesians chapter 5, as you read the chapter, we need to use the scriptural types we have been given.
