Troop 45's Boy Scout Cadences
Cadences, sometimes called "jodies", are designed to not only keep a group of soldiers in step, but are also used to motivate and inspire soldiers, giving them a sense of teamwork and pride in their unit, their jobs, and themselves. The NCO's are required to know and call an appropriate cadence when marching a group of soldiers, or during a physical fitness run.
Troop 45 is located on Fort Eustis, so most of the Troop's adult leaders are military. Because of this fact, there is a strong military influence in the Troop. We have also learned that when we used cadences at summer camp, it kept the scouts motivated, and sparked their creativity (by trying to think up their own cadences). It also kept them in step while marching to Troop activities, as well as bringing them together as a team. As Scoutmaster and as an NCO, I have learned that both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts really love to learn and sing military cadences (even though we usually have to tone some of the cadences down a bit).
