Heather was born on the bedroon floor to a 15 year old girl who said
she didn't even know she was pregnant Christmas morning of 1989. She spent
the next 4 days of her life in ICU due to low blood sugar and failure to
thrive. Heather was diagnosed as having Congenital CMV (CytoMeglio Virus)
at that time. She was also born about 4 weeks early and only weighed 4lbs
6oz. Heather was then taken out of ICU but remained in the Hosp. for 10
more days. The next 10 weeks she was in foster care and on March 28, 1990
was placed with me for adoption. November of that year I was Activated
to the Persian Gulf and was there for 6 months. Heathers development was
noted to be delayed and her behavior was such that she was evaluated and
was found to be ADHD at the age of 3 years. She was also found to have
a seperation disorder due to having no one to bond to from birth till she
was 3 months old and then after just 7 months with me I had to leave her
for a while. I always tease Heather that she never did learn to walk she
just started running.

Angelica Pickles
Angelica Pickles is Drew and Charolettes' child, three years
old. A spoiled little brat, she loves to push the younger kids around,
steal their toys or candy, and just make their lives miserable. Usually
playing on someones fear, or magnifying falsehoods. Always blames mishaps
on someone else, usually the kids. Actually, you get to see a nice side
of her quite often, but usually when she attempts to apologize, somehow
it backfires... She is one of the few kids who can talk in both the children's
world and the adult world, so can communicate both ways.
(Angelica is Heather's mentor. She can relate to Angelica.)

Heather would run, climb, jump, anything just to be moving. She would hit,
screem, call you any name under the sun, reach, grab turn over anything
in site. I really don't know where she got her vocabulary but it wasn't
from me. The Dr said she has a mild form of Tourettes Syndrom so she would
say any four letter word that would come to her mind. Heather has been
in school since she was 3 years old and has had Ocupational Therapy, Physical
Therapy and Speech Therapy since she started. She went to K at a special
school and then started in the Public school the following year and K again.
She is now finishing 1st grade. She goes to a Resource Teacher most of
the day but does get to interact with her class for Art, PE, Recess, Science
and fun classes. Last year Heather spent a week in a Mental Health Center
for an evaluation and Behavior Mod. Also during that time thay was able
to adjust her Medications. She has been on Ritalin, Dexadrine, Desipramine,
Cylert and many others which all have had side effects or caused her Tourettes
to get worse. Now she is doing great on Aderall and Risperadol. We (The
Dr. and I ) do not know how far Heather will develope but each day bring
new hope and signs that she will grow into a lovely woman. Heather is the
love of my life at this point in timee. Heather will talk to anyone and
bring a smile to anyones face just by her presense. She always has a smile
on her face that shows big dimples. The most precious time is when she
comes into my bedroom and tells me Good
Morning Mommy I Love you.
