Lester B. Pearson ( 1897 - 1972 ) Lester Bowels Pearson was born 23 rd of April 1897 and died 27th of December 1972. He was a soldier in the first World War, first with the medical corps then with the Royal Flying Corps. He then taught history at the University of Toronto, and served Canada brilliantly as a diplomat in London, from 1935 to 1941, and in Washington from 1942 to 1945. As Canada's Minister of External Affairs, he helped create both the United Nations in 1945 and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in 1949. He earned a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in solving the Suez crisis of 1956 and introducing a new kind of peacekeeping to the UN. He served the country as Prime Minister from 1963 to 1968, during wich time he gave Canada it's distinctive Maple Leaf flag.

The Avro ( A.V. Roe ) was intended to replace the CF-100, the Avro CF-105 Arrow was a technical masterpeice at the forefront of aviation engeneering during it's time ( 1957 ). The Canadian goverment, beleived, however, that the manned bomber threat was diminishing and that air defense could be handled by unmaned BOMARC missiles. The contract was canclled while test fliying was still in progress. By then Five Arrows had flown. The goverment ordered all completed Arrows, related documents and equipment destroyed.
