Be careful when renting a motor-bike or scooter. If the bike gets damaged you will probably have to pay an outrageous amount for even minor repairs. We know of travellers who've resisted getting ripped off and been beaten till they pay. Another favourite trick of Indian bike owners is to "steal" the bike the night before the traveller is due to return it. Then the owner lays a guilt trip on the traveller to get money for the bike. Travellers who've run out of money and can't pay have been beaten and had things (watches etc.) stolen to make up the owners "loss". The day after the traveller leaves the "stolen" bike reappears to be rented out again.Take a tip, rent the bike for a few days longer then you really need it. You'll pay a few days for nothing but save yourself a lot of potential pain and loss. Then, pack up and on your way out of town drop the bike off with the owner and say you had to leave earlier then expected.
