Some photos of Singapore

This is the entrance to what was the Esplanade, the end of Singapore River and the beginning of the sea and also the start of the Central Business District of Singapore but now with reclaimation, a new vibrant Marina City downtown has emerged. The stone figure you see is the Merlion, the symbol of Singapore, its founding in 1819 by Sir Stamford Raffles, Singa or the Lion

These are two of the tallest buildings in Singapore, the United Overseas Bank Tower and the Overseas Union Bank Building, which both houses the offices of the two banks and other corporate tenants. Both buildings are at seventh storeys high and in the new commercial business area of Raffles Place, which also houses a MRT station.

This is the new vibrant Marina City, Suntec City and Millinea complex with five hotels some built in the late 1980s and early 1990s, with the biggest convention centre complex in Singapore, Suntec City Convention Centre, at least eight highrise office blocks and three shopping malls, all built on land reclaimed in the 1970s

This was built in the 1960s and still hosts various cultural shows including world renowed plays and performances by the Singapore Symphonny Orchestra among others although other new stadiums like the Indoor Stadium now hosts various live performances and plays

This is the musical fountain on Sentosa Island with the five storey Merlion tower overlooking it. In the evenings, families and tourists come to enjoy the musical fountain performances in all its myraid colors aided by spectacular laser displays

This is another of the many attractions on Sentosa island which draws so many people to this island. The Merlion Tower was built as to enable locals and tourists to know the folklore and legends of this island as well as to enable a good view of the island and the mainland of Singapore to be obtained from the top of the Merlion Tower. The "eyes: of the merlion shine bright for everyone to see.

One of the last remaining Grand Hotels of the East, Raffles Hotel has been carefully restored to reflect the golden age of travel, the gentle age of the steamship, horse-drawn carriages and leisurely strolls on the promenade in far-off lands. Step into a world where time has stood still ... classically furnished suites with wide, breezy verandahs ... lush tropical gardens ... restaurants and bars reliving the many aspects of the colonial lifestyle of the era ... specialty shops showcasing a superb range of memorabilia. An old-world charm that is quintessentially Raffles Hotel.

The merlion is the symbol of Singapore. No one knows exactly why this was chosen, perhaps because Singapore came from the Malay word, Singapore Lion, so we have the merlion. This merlion stood at the entrance to the Singapore harbour, leading out from the Singapore river, in the heart of the city. Now a new expressway bridge has been built near this site but tourists still flock to view and take photos of this national symbol of the island state of Singapore.

A view taken from the harbour of the majestic high rise office blocks in Shenton Way and Raffles Place, part of the Central Building District and the financial hubs of Singapore, the Wall Street of Singapore where fortunes are made and the big financial institutions, multinational corporations and statutory boards have their offices.

Know where the tourists flock to make their purchases this is the touristy area of Singapore, Orchard Road with their deluxe five star hotels, shopping centres where both Singaporeans and tourists do their shopping. The Regent and Oxford Street of Singapore.

This is the World Trade Centre and Singapore Cruise Centre, the entrance to Sentosa Island. View taken from a cable car from the mainland to Sentosa. Note the cruise ship berthed at the Cruise Centre.

The Tanjong Pagar Mass Rapid Transit station in Shenton Way financial district. The Mass Rapid Transit is Singapore answer to the Underground in London, the subway in US, the MTR in Hongkong and the Metro in Paris.

A "junk", a modified boat to allow tourists to enjoy a scenic view of the Singapore harbour sails tranquilly in the waters off the Raffles Place business district of Singapore.

Another view of Sentosa island with the Asian village, theme park below, viewed from the cable car travelling above.
