Complete Orientation and Training is Essential for all Volunteers
Volunteer Forum
Get to know your fellow animal lovers!
All volunteers are encouraged to participate in the meetings of the Volunteer Forum. The purpose of the Forum is to discuss ideas and promote new programs. In addition, fun get-togethers are scheduled periodically.

The Volunteer Forum meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM at the Black-eyed Pea in Irving at 3601 North Belt Line.

Work With the Animals

1. TLC - Tender Loving Care (Walking dogs, socializing cats)
2. Mobile Adoptions - Volunteer teams adopt animals off-site - requires special commitment and follow-up
3. Foster Homes - Provide temporary homes for ill, injured, orphaned, or pregnant animals*
4. Adoption Counseling - Assist the public with the adoption process*
5. Volunteer Adoption Desk - Assist at the front desk with information and phone*
6. Pet Therapy - Taking puppies to nursing homes
7. Rescue - Save Lives - Offer temporary housing due to overcrowding at the shelter
8. Assist with grooming, bathing, dipping - Bring your rubber ducky!
9. Kennel Assistance - Clean cages and general help with the animals*

Work For the Animals

1. Fund Raising Events - Raffle, Silent Auction, Gaines Coupons
2. Exhibits - Cat and dog shows, malls, special events - spread the word
3. Membership Drive
4. Garage Sales - Donationg, pricing, setting up, and working
5. Creative Contributions - Making items for sale at Bazaars, etc (for the artistic among you)
6. Newsletter - Monthly update - writers and artists needed
7. Art Work and Graphics
8. Humane Education - Presentation to children's groups and/or rehabilitation groups
9. Public Relations - Press releases, promotions, media contact lists, assist with shows, animals
10. Recycle Program
11. Clerical - Computer entry, typing and mailing
12. Maintenance and Repair - Includes painting, lawn care etc

All programs offer on the job training. Programs with an asterisk (*) require classroom training.

The DFW Humane Society Needs you

Our volunteers are our most important asset and they do a remarkable job for the animals, the shelter, and its programs.

If you would like to join with us in helping the animals get homes, educate the public, or help fund raise, this is what you need to do:

1. You must be 18 years old or accompanied by a parent/guardian or be working with a youth group with teachers/counselors.
2. Call our volunteer office at 972-253-3333 to sign up for the next orientation session.
3. Make a commitment to assist the DFW Humane Society in "Helping Us Help Them."

We Want and Need Your Support

The DFW Humane Society of Irving is a private, not-for-profit, animal protection organization serving the Metropolitan area since 1967. We receive NO government funding. We survive solely on private donations, estates, and grants.

Out low-cost Spay / Neuter certificates, a cooperation venture with many area veterinary clinics, are made available to the public to assist with the tragic overpopulation problem.

At an given time, the DFW Humane Society houses aver 100 homeless animals with many more in foster and rescue homes. All of these animals deserve a good home. With your help, we can get them that good home.
